Is that snow blowing off the roof or do you have an overhang beyond the upstairs roof?

Sometimes you can "rebalance" a split level or side split by creating a horizontal line level with the single story roof across the front of the two story part of the house ... even if it is only an overhang attached to the house and supported by triangle braces rather than an actual porch.

Adding a 6' deep front porch (budget and building codes permitting) can work even better , especially if you can add that porch across much of the front of the house and continue the horizontal line with a portico or shorter overhang over the garage at the same level -- a shed roof but adding a forward facing gable over the front entry ... over the entry door and side lights and their frames..

Thank you! We definitely can change things up by adding a porch of some type. I'll check our some portico ideas! I've changed up the photo to add something a little more current.

White siding and trim, including fascia and soffit, upstairs goes well with red brick on the main level.

Even if a larger porch is not practical for you, adding a portico -- a roof with a forward facing gable that covers that front landing -- would be a good idea. IF the entry door is centered with the upstairs windows, then you could make the gable tall with the ridge nearly reaching the upstairs windows.

If the door is not centered with the windows, you might consider a tall flat roof for your portico.

See if you can keep the fascia for the portico roof level with the single story roof fascia and add a short faux overhang over the garage as well in order to continue that same horizontal line.

I am liking some of the dramatic updates they’ve been doing to these mid century homes. Yours would look good too.
