As much as I love katsuras, this selection is....well, underwhelming. Lacks all the grace and density of a typical katsura and looks to me to be always struggling. And the purple coloring fades in summer to a greenish blue with a slight purple tinge.

Might be good where a fastigiate tree with some foliage color is needed but I think your Ogon demands a stronger, more robust companion.

Mine is very nice. It's been in the ground for about nine years (planted as a #5) and is shaded in afternoon. The shape is good and the color holds. I think that the pm shade is important, at least in this climate.

The color is not, however, as dramatic as Cotinus 'Royal Purple', the dark Physocarpus or the dark-leaved beeches. It's just not as saturated.
