Small bath wallpaper- yay or nay and will this stay on trend?

last modified: 4 years ago

I am redoing a small master bath with a small shower. Colors are grey and white for tile; brushed gold bath hardware with BM Moonshine wall color. I was thinking about adding wallpaper to one wall with the vanity and lighting fixture (also a brushed gold). Does this Schumacher seem too busy? I love this paper but I want to stay with the trends. While I am not selling the house I will have to look at it for years. I'm trying to not make a big mistake...

    Absolutely do it, it's gorgeous!

Yes, the wallpaper! I love the image Beth showed. It would make your bathroom very memorable and you'll likely love it far more than simple gray paint.

i like Beth’s idea too. But, can you do it that way?

Yes, the largest wall has the vanity and lighting, so it would go behind it like in this pic...I don't have wainscoting so there would be more paper but I think the fixtures will break it up

This is the tile floor, the two look great together on a design board, I am hoping not too busy

Get your tile installed before you select the wallpaper. I love wall paper in a powder room, but on all four walls either the full wall or above wainscoting.

But I don't think it will be too busy. Better to wait. You can prime the walls in the meantime.

If you love the paper (I do too!) you will never look at it and think, “Gee I wish I’d done trendier.” Do what delights you, never look back!

Beth H- in the stunning pic you posted, the paper looks more blue, I would not have thought it would work with the light blue paint. I am seeing a blue-gray-green which is called Mineral by Schumacher. Could there be some editing shift in color in that photo?

pmoskie, it does look more blue in that photo.

maybe it's your monitor or the pic you have.

here's another picture of it and it looks more blue than gray. have you ordered a sample?

    it's listed here:

    https://thezhush.com/five-perfect-powder-rooms/

    they said they used Mineral.

and heres the link they used to order it.

    https://www.decoratorsbest.com/products/schumacher-oiseaux-et-fleurs-mineral-wallpaper?sscid=61k5_u9a9k

Here are some other photos w/it

I suppose if you used a soft blue paint color, it would bring out more of the blue tones.

Just like if you were to paint the wainscot in one of these gray tones, the paper would look more gray. (Personally I'd use that blue color on the walls. It's beautiful)

or, try some of these colors

Mineral, Porcelain and Cinnebar and Peridot are the colors it comes in

do you have a sample of the paper? why don't you order one?

i do like the marble tile you've chosen.

Beth H-I do have a sample that came from Schumacher website in Mineral. Right now my Master Bed and bath is painted BM Moonshine which now looking at the fandeck definitely has a green/brown undertone which is why I think it matches well. I had not planned on changing the bathroom color unless I had to. The shower tile is Bedrosian Cloe white which to me runs both cool and warm which I think would really work with this paper

i wanted to stay away from seafoamy green tones that make me feel old hospital ward lol

Another BM Moonshine shown with brown tones

Oh and Beth H, I edited my original post because I thought I had used Gray Owl but indeed it is Moonshine which is why I think it works with the paper with that hint of airy grey-green. This is the light fixture and sink faucet

I think moonshine will work fine. Definitely has green undertones to it.

    love the gold fixtures too.

its a paper that can be done w/many diff colors.

However, the white vanity w/the blue wainscot is stunning w/that paper. Personally I like a bit more vibrancy. If you don't, stay with what you have.

moonshine should be fine. if not, no biggie. it's only paint

FWIW I used wallpaper similar to that in my bathrooms relatively recently (2018). They are chinoiserie inspired and used as accents above the tile. I also used the wallpaper as an accent wall in my bedroom for the wall in back of my bed.

I have not grown tired of my choice and I still get pleasure when I look at it. FWIW, my bathroom is the antithesis of a gray marble spa look which is exactly what I asked for. I didn't give a nanosecond of thought to whether a potential buyer might not like it -

If you're going with trends, then you're already making a HUGE mistake, because no trend stays. You should design to the style and age of the house and also what you love.

Gray, by the way is already dated.

    That wallpaper is stunning.

Love the wallpaper and the blue walls ... in a larger room, it'd be too much, but it's "just right" for a half bath.

However, I'd go with something something more simple for the flooring. It's a step too much.
