What are your favorite towels?

I have had a set of towels that I just love for close to 15 years. It is finally time to replace them, but it is proving very difficult. The old towels are thick, plush, cozy, and SUPER absorbant. I have bought a few to try in the past year but they never stand up in comparison. I can no longer read the tags on the old set, so no idea what brand they are.

My favorite are not the plush ones. I like thinner ones that absorb water better for me. I do have some fairly new ones that are thick and plush that I keep for other people to use. The tag says Charisma luxury towels. No idea where I bought them. Maybe JC Penny?

I get Sonoma Quick Dry towels from Kohl’s. I don’t like heavy, thick towels that don’t dry from one shower to the next. These are soft, fluffy, absorbent, and cheap.

Does "Quick dry" mean it dries fast on the towel bar ... or fast in the dryer ... or both? Do they last?

Honestly my favorite towels i bought from Sam's club. I got them last year. They were a revelation. Much nicer than the towels I registered for from Macy's, ave they've stood up in the wash... still thick and cozy. I'm sure Costco has something similar.

Dries fast on the towel bar! They’ve lasted me going on 5 years I think… but are on sale now for $7 for a bath towel, so I won’t mind replacing!

Frontgate's, recommended by Wirecutter: https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/best-bath-towel/. They wash beautifully and retain their softness and absorbency. Plus they come in a good selection of colors.

ours are from minnesota, and are super absorbant

I have Martha Stewart quick dry towels and I like them a lot. They're ribbed on one side. I have several colors and like to mix and match. In our humid climate, thick, heavy towels take too long to dry and get smelly.

I like real turkish towels I buy from a local shop that imports them. I bought 2 a few years ago to use as travel/beach towels but realized I like them much better than ordinary towels. They are thin, soft, dry very fast and they are pretty. I've slowly been replacing all my towels with them and giving my thick towels to my kids as they move out to go to college.

Charisma from Costco. $5.99 when they go on sale. Worth trying at that price. And these are holding up better than my Macy's set.

My favorite is Royal Velvet Egyptian. It is very large but not plush. I do not like thick plush towels, but all towels dry very quickly in the desert. In fact, I usually dry off without using a towel soon after I get out of my shower in Cathedral City, and this is a bit of a problem when I try to shave, as my face is already dry. The good thing is that the mirror in the bathroom never fogs up.

For dish towels, I like linen or Turkish cotton, which may be a blend of cotton and something else, such as ramie.

I love peshtemal towels. They are very thin, large, soft, and extremely absorbant. They dry very quickly when hung up as well as in the dryer. There is a wide variety of patterns and colors available. I am thrilled I gave them a chance several years ago. I will never go back to the thick towels.

About 2 years ago I had my 2 small bathrooms renovated with sage vanities and cream quartz countertops. I purchased Lacoste supima cotton towels in rose and cream ( got them on sale too) and love them❣️

My favorite bath towels are Boll and Branch organic cotton plush terry cloth. I love thick, soft bath towels. In my climate, they dry well so they don't get funky. I weave my own dish towels and hand towels, mostly of organic cotton. Fine linen is really nice.

Love Abyss super pile towels. they are ridiculously expensive, but stay soft, are very absorbant and come in an amazing array of colors

    Egyptian or Turkish cotton

The ones from Costco are nice. You'll get sick of the colours before they wear out.

Vera Wang, from Kohls. They're Turkish cotton.

    • Glad to hear others are fans of thinner towels. When i had my bathroom remodeled I treated myself to some thick towels from Watermark. I don’t like them. I keep going back to my thin old towels that are stringy at the ends. I’m due for some new towels and will look for thin ones.

I have Costco towels. They shed in the dryer for quite a while. Other than that, I have no complaints.

Okay, now I remember buying those towels at Costco. They were pretty cheap.

I LOVE my towels from Daisy House - they’re bamboo and are wonderfully absorbing and soft. They’re a bit pricey, but have lasted a long time! I was a bit skeptical when they arrived, being so flat, but once you wash/dry (never with dryer sheets) them, they fluffed up great!

I loved the old Patrician egyptian cotton towels you could buy but those are no longer available. I still have some old ones i took to the lake.

Wamsutta still makes some i like that are sold at BB&B. I have also bought some that aren't terribly thick but nice at Target, their At Home brand I think. I’ve had some I use daily in our bathroom so they get washed frequently, including hand towels, and they have held up quite well.

edited to add, Bookwoman, i love my Frontgate bath mat, but have not tried their towels. Good to know.

I did a fair amount of low-budget traveling in Mexico and Central America, and I always packed a thin, cheap beach towel. It came in handy as a towel, blanket, place to sit and in a pinch, rolled up as a pillow. Most are long gone, but I recently found one packed away and am now using it. So my favorite towel is a sentimental towel.

I agree with dedtired. DH loves the huge, thick Turkish towels, but they are *so* thick that I can't push the washcloths into my ears to clean them! (I have some old Costco Charisma washcloths.)

I 'sluice' myself off in the shower before emerging, and a hand towel is merely damp after I'm dried enough to slather on the CeraVe cream. DH's bath towel is *soaked* when he emerges.

Completely by accident, the towel bars beside our bathroom sinks are directly over the furnace supply vents. Auto-dry.

Love my Coyuchi Mediterranean Organic Turkish flat weave. So pretty, lightweight, absorbent, take up very little space in the linen closet. It's my first try at this type of towel, and i think they are great. It's an adjustment, and hubby probably prefers traditional towels, but even living in the desert and laundering frequently, those all smell a bit funky after a while. So he's adjusting to the new normal.

In case anyone is thinking about trying Turkish, I'll share my other experience. I also bought another less expensive brand on Amazon for my RV, and while those are also very soft and absorbent, they come out of the dryer quite wrinkly. Ok for the RV but not the master bath.

I bought all white towels from Costco. I don't like the feel of the plush towels. I have one thin towel I use for my hair after a shower that was specifically made for that reason but I don't recall the brand.

Lands End supima— they feel like fluffy cotton balls!

I have the Frontagte towels. They are plush, not too fluffy, and look as good as new three years out now. I also like waffle weave Japanese towels.

I prefer thin towels and washcloths. Hand towels medium weight.

I bought some waffle weave cloth for the linings of some cabana jackets that I made, and I prefer it to the terry cloth that I used for the first ones I made. I only use the terry cloth ones in the winter, as they are too hot. The waffle weave fabric was significantly more expensive than terry cloth, even though it was much lighter in weight.

This is what got me interested in waffle weave towels, although I already had some waffle weave dish towels.

Better Homes and Gardens got mine at Walmart. Soft, absorbent, color holding up after many years.

Thanks all for the great responses and suggestions. This totally sent me down a towel rabit hole. I orderd some from Frontgate to start. I have also added some Amazon and Daisy House options that were highly rated. I will check in once I’ve had a chance to use them.

I also love the white Charisma towels from Costco. Thin enough, but not too thin, great price, I'm happy. After using white ones, I dislike using any colored towels, just feels dirty.

I really like the Threshold towels from Target. The bath towel is larger than most and they dry quicklly, not too thick or too thin and they come in lots of colors.

What about dish towels? I bought a bunch some years ago from walmart bc I liked them, packed them away sonce i didnt need them right then. Recently got them out, and while I still like the design, they seem to just…move the wet around, if that makes sense.
