Tile should look fine. Do you have a pattern in mind?

No. If you see the left side where fireplace comes right to corner of wall, I don’t know if I should bring it on to the side wall in the design.

Can you take a pic further back and include that wall.

If this is a wood-burning fireplace, there will be distance requirements to keep any flames separate from any flammable surfaces. I suggest you go to the local building and safety department and get a copy of the safety requirements. Find out if you need a permit to do the alterations you desire. A permit and inspections are important. Things done without permits and inspections can void your house insurance policy if not done properly. Safety is concern #1. Location of flammable materials (wood floor, wallboard, wood shelving) must be done to code to avoid a fire hazard. You may be required to add a specified size fire-proof hearth around the sides of the fireplace opening.

@felizlady brings up a good point. I can tell you just by looking at your fireplace that it is a wood burning fireplace, which does in fact require a non-combustible hearth on the floor in front and on the side. Unless your floor is ceramic tile on concrete, you are going to need to pull up the flooring around the fireplace and replace it with a non-combustible hearth.

So please let us know if you have considered that.
