Embracing green tile bathrooms in a cute mountain home

I have 4 bathrooms with this tile in a home I am purchasing/remodeling. Too expensive to replace the tile but I believe there is hope. Colorado mountain ski town location, envisioning a kitschy mountain modern theme. Valances will be removed, all walls repainted a bright white. After that pushing for black/white/wood theme with green accents around the whole home. Can upgrade lighting too. Where would you take this bathroom only changing hardware, lighting and wall decor? There is something fun about low-budget reno that forces creativity.....Right?

I am with you on the all white paint, removing the valance, and light fixtures.

Get rid of all the cuteness... I would paint the toilet cove a deep green.

It would be fun to paper the tall wall in a forest/tree pattern. ... like you are walking down a trail to the toilet. Have fun!

Can you change out all the metal to ORB? I think the dark fixtures would add warmth. That means vanity lights, towel bars, sink & tub faucets & handles. Agree the valance has to go - what about woven wood blinds?

All white would work but so would a "stone" -- not quite white but not a tan or gray -- and it doesn't have a pink or yellow hue. Finding it in clothes colors is difficult so will be finding it as a paint color, too.

Thanks everyone- I think ORB is the right idea. I am going to go with black hardware and lighting, black towel bar, etc. black/white art on walls. It is the only color theme I can think of that is simple and easy to reproduce in all baths.

Can inlaid tile like this changed out? I thought it would be too surgical, easier to replace countertop (which won't happen right now)

Change out the faucets for something all metal (no clear plastic). Put up some woodland art. I rather like your mountain bathroom. Everything looks to be in great condition.

Probably can't change faucets yet....but yes all in good condition, thankfully.

It sounds fun to embrace the green, but if you get stumped, I’ve seen tile/tub paint used on countertops in before and after projects online. I’ve never done it, so I can’t speak to durability. Please come back and post a finished picture when you’re done. :)

The faucet handles in many brands can be changed - check if they are standard sizes.

Will this be rented out as a vacation home or kept for personal use? If it's a luxury rental, skip the kitsch and go for "mountain luxury". If it's for personal use, choose what you like, of course.

I would embrace the green as much as possible in the bathrooms, but I don't think I would bring it around the whole house.

I agree with apple pie - is this a rental or are you living there?

I would pull that huge mirror and find 2 mirrors with a rustic wood frame ( easy enough to do yourself )

Replace the light fixtures, paint, pull the tile base trim on the walls and replace with a wood trim like the mirrors and I would see if you can find a darker grout for the tiles

    Fun project! Good luck

I love the wallpaper idea! even just simply removing all of the country bumpkin elements and painting would make a big difference. also, the lighting in there is very yellow, so swapping out the bulbs will help too.

I'd be really torn between wanting to paint the vanity too, or leaving it. it's such pretty wood. if the countertop was ever replaced, I'd want to keep the original wood.

edit-- whoops I see you said "mountain theme". same pic, with a different print. keep the bathroom decor relatively minimal, since there is already a lot going on in here (like, white towels, etc).

also, just putting this out there -- you can enamel over the countertop and bath surround. since this is a vacation home, it won't get that much abuse anyway. if you're worried about longevity, get a pro to do it. they'll have some really good methods to help it last longer.

Right! Some of our favorite projects have involved breathing new life into spaces that others might have gutted or demolished, like this home we designed a few years ago. As for your hardware, go for a matte black. It will modernize the cabinetry and bring depth to the space. These gorgeous faucets we found were the perfect blend of mountain and modern:

Some ideas for your light fixtures from some of our projects:

With crisp white walls, a couple of new light fixtures, and black hardware, this bathroom will feel updated and chic. Keep us posted on your progress. We can’t wait to see what you do with the space!
