Paint color suggestions for small mid-century space

Hello everyone, I am new here and finally bought a house. It's my first stab at serious decorating and really tough! I want this space to be more formal, mid-century modern. I have read white is what you do with MCM but I'm not a white fan wanted something more interesting, and with the wood trim in the living and dining room, it won't look too hot. I'm thinking grey or taupe West Elm couch to go in this area. I wanted to do the connected dining area the complementary color. My original color choice was SW Artichoke but that's way too dark. I'm not totally happy with my other choices. It doesn't have to be green, I just like green. What color would give me the dignified, sophisticated but lively, kinda formal vibe I'm looking for? Then I have the question of what to do with the hallway leading into the living room (kitchen on the right as you enter, basically no open wall to worry about right now and that's the first thing to get remodeled anyway)

Here are some pictures of the current occupant's rooms, I might buy that shelf from them actually as it's kind of retro but up close you can see it's cheapy '90s looking faux-grain and I don't like it.

A white or neutral painted room doesn't have to be boring if you select objects in the room to be in colors. In MCM homes all the public rooms are typically the same color.

You can go with 25% lighter than Artichoke. It is Green Onyx SW.

or 50% lighter with Softened Green SW

Thanks all...I really think white won't look good with wood borders. That would be a lot to sand and paint...I may go for the sage!

Jason post more photos when you can. The photos that you posted don't really appear MCM, maybe mid century ranch... Of course you can do any color you like, but I might not base my decision on a little wood trim...

Ah well like I said that's not my stuff...That couch and arm chair will be going in, then a coffee table, haven't really decided on one yet. The shelves in that picture I think I won't take from the owners after all.

Never heard of mid century ranch, ha. Ah wall, I guess I'll just do what I like, just so hard deciding on a shade.

It doesn't look MCM much....maybe just the house was built during that time period? Here are some great examples of MCM style. Note the walls are not bright white....they are a creamy color in most cases, some darker. Note the "white" does look great with wood.

@Tara Ugh, yeah, thats what it would look like. Looks atrocious to me, way too awkward looking from the high contrast. The pic with the wide beams is much better though. Not sure where the idea that mine is a 50s house came from, its an 00s townhome.

Now if I had the money to do the cool wood ceiling I'd do that though :)

I suppose I should say I’m eclectic, I like MCM furniture but not so much the white walls and star clocks and the super clichéd stuff people hang on the walls.

I like that Silver Sage but my contractor only uses Sherwin Williams for discount reasons...Kinda dig this deeper Clary Sage. To me that looks so much better with the brown wood that's along the windows. I probably won't get rid of any time soon...Removing that stuff is expensive I think.

See if you can find a tan or pale brown without a pink or yellow hue -- the kind of neutral color that will go with anything and that was the color of most of the walls in my family home growing up in the mid-century -- until, of course, my baby sister wanted pink everything in her room.

A more "flat" wall paint would likely be better with lots of wood trim than satin -- definitely better than gloss.
