'Yes Virginia, there really are book-readers ".........

I found this post on a FB weaving site and it actually made me sad........

I was thinking about making book marks. I have the fiber picked out and then I had to stop and ask... Do folks even read books any more , being the ageof computers and tablets and cel phones ? Would it be worth the time or would it end up being just one of those things that I can say I've done. I will be warping for another scarf until I can figure this one out. Thank you in advance for your thoughts.

Yes, it is sad. Sounds as though the writer has no connection with her local library or school, or maybe she lives with no close family . .. or maybe they just don't read. Similar to folk who have no books in their homes or just a couple of 'coffee-table' bricks just for show.

Sad, indeed. Maybe you could invite her to join our Christmas bookmark exchange.

In my public library system, e-books tend to be less available than paper & glue books (this is a personal observation, not a statistic). Although when it comes to new, trendy books, both are equally unavailable.

Even though I prefer real books, I'm glad to see that e-books are popular too. Because my worst fear is that the younger generation stop reading altogether, and just live glued to their phones, checking their Facebook accounts, watching YouTube and TikTok videos, and sending text messages to people that are in the next room (this last occurrence happens at work every day).

Of course, with the rise of e-books, bookstores will disappear too. That will be sadder than bookmarks.

So, yes, it is sad that bookmarks will sooner than later be a thing of the past, but, when reading doesn't matter anymore, that'll be the real disaster.
