In top search box I put "shelves on either side of fireplace in photos" and a lot of ideas come up. One thing I would like to say (based on personal experience): If you are a neat freak, go with the open shelving. If not, go with shelving that has doors. Open shelving tends to be decorative and closed shelving tends to be a bit more practical, in my opinion.

I agree, move the TV to the left side of the fireplace. You could put it on a slight angle and get a chest for under it. Get a piece of art for over the fireplace or move your drawing there. Get another non-matching cabinet that is taller for the other side. Look for pieces on Craigslist or second hand shops, Goodwill and Habitat for Humanity for better quality at a lower price.

2) Post photos of all 4 walls.

Once that is done, we can set a floor plan: Where does the sofa go? Where chairs, etc? It could be that chairs will go by the fireplace. I don't know. So, planning on adding something there like credenzas is just wasting your $.

Here are two options.

Here are just a few ideas on what you might be able to do with the sides of your fireplace. Perhaps you could try bookshelves on either side, a credenza, or you could try a plant on one side and a chair flanking the other side of the fireplace.
