Good timing for purple - can anyone identify this plant? My neighbor thought it was willowleaf but I'm not sure.

An autumn planter by our front entrance when we lived in Holland (a small rowhouse). The garden centers there were so amazing!

@maire_cate I am most NOT-knowledgeable re plants and flowers, but I use an app called SEEK which is wonderful at identifying. Editing to add- it is SEEK by iNaturalist. (And of course, it's free)

Thanks for that site Salonva. I'll give it a try. I tried google image search but didn't get a definitive answer. It may help too if I get a close-up of the flower and leaves too. I'm thinking of replacing the salvia on the side of the house because it gets too tall and then falls over. This plant was only about 12 -14" inches and very sturdy.

I was feeling down last week on the 25th anniversary of my mother passing. She was only 52. I sent myself these flowers on a whim from a local florist. They came the same day and were gorgeous! The roses were the best I have seen in a long time and they smelled amazing. I have since cleaned my desk. Still feeling blue though. no idea why :)

Ok, now we are talking. My gardens both here in Maine and in CT are all blue, white, green and purple! Its the only scheme I like. The hydrangeas sometime pop up pink, and I have a swathe of multicolored zinnias in the veggie garden, but I’m really about the cool color scheme. Here are two from this years pool garden in Maine.

Thanks again for the plant info.

Party Music - I tend to forget about the Garden side of GW - thanks for the reminder.

Dedtired - your plant id is spot on. My neighbor called it Willowleaf, but aparently the full name is Willowleaaf angelonia. I'll add it to my plant list for spring planting.

Magenta rose (Kordes 1954). I started this rose from a cutting many years ago. This is the best it has ever done. I love the many petals.

ETA - It is more purple looking in real life than in the photo on a computer.

I just looked up the Vanda orchids and I think you are right about mine. It was growing outside in Florida and it was pretty big. I really love the color of it.

It’s funny because I really like the color purple, but walking around my home today I realized that I don’t have anything purple, except a few sweaters, but they’re still packed away until Fall. Anyhoo, I was born in February so amethyst is my birthstone. Here’s the Native American silver and amethyst necklace, bracelet and earrings DH bought me many years ago for a birthday gift.

I was also born in February and like amethyst. I have some amethyst crystals in L.A., but I'm not there right now, and I have not photographed them.

I'm a Pisces, and so some say that my birthstone is aquamarine, which I also like, but I like amethyst better.
