No hummingbirds ever visited my hanging hummingbird feeder on my balcony. I faithfully filled it, cleaned it, filled it with no hummers seen at all. Finally I gave up and just let it hang, as it's pretty blown glass, and continued tending my balcony plants. In one planter, I have a big cascade of petunias tumbling over the side into space. And yesterday, by gosh, I almost fell over when I glanced out my balcony window: a hummingbird was busy feeding at the various petunia flowers for like 5 minutes. I was so delighted! I don't know why they didn't like my feeder, but at least I know I can attract them by my flowers. If I'm still in this apartment next summer (if I haven't found a house I want to buy), I will be sure to plant plenty of "wave" type petunias to attract hummers.
