Is there anything you would like to change in this design?

Instead of wood hood, we are putting Steel hood. Backsplash will go up to the celling on both walls Please let me know your thoughts. I have time to make changes right now and would like to know your opinion.

Thanks in advance!!

@HU-187528210 The only other thing is that I would ideally want the island orientation to be the other way.--- Don't have enough room for it. It will block refrigerator and oven.

I would add a cabinet panel to the dishwasher---- sorry didn't understand. What do you mean by this? On front of dishwasher instead of steal we should add wood panel?

It means to order a "panel ready dw" so it blends in with your other cabinets. It also never shows fingerprints, love mine.

You would order the dishwasher panel from your cabinet company, so the front of the dishwasher would look like another cabinet. As Lucky said, some dishwashers are specifically made panel-ready; they don't have any controls or indicators on the front, controls are on the top of the door when you open it.

I would give some more thought to the sconce placement. For the two flanking the range, the light spread is going to be constrained by the cabinets and the range hood. Lowering the fixtures as low as you can without overlapping the window glass should minimize shadows. On the window wall, I would move the sconces a bit closer together to ensure good light over the sink (particularly if you lower them). The flanking cabinets are going to limit the light spread to the sides anyway, so you won't be losing anything.

Where are you going to put your everyday dishes? The most logical place is the wall cabinet to the right of the dishwasher. I’d replace the appliance garage with a regular wall cabinet. I suppose you could keep your everyday dishes in drawers beneath the appliance garage, but you probably want one of those drawers for flatware. Also, the two sided glass doors on the end cabinet look odd to me. Are you planning to display something here?

Also, it looks like you will have floor cabinets to the right of the dishwasher. I highly recommend drawers instead of cabinets here. In my kitchen, for the first time I have as many drawers as possible and I love it!

@Carolae Where are you going to put your everyday dishes - On top of the appliances garage. i am keeping one open shelves to keep my everyday flat dishes and bowls.

@Carolae We changed those into drawers. I have all drawers for the bottom cabinets.

You are going to need a riser behind that range top with quartz back splash.

    Right from the installation manual:

When installing against a combustible surface, a minimum 5" (127) riser is required for model SRT366, and a minimum 10" (254) riser is required for 36" and 48" sealed burner rangetops with a charbroiler or griddle.

@sunarakaa That’s good! Are you doing drawers the width of the cabinet? That will maximize your storage space here.

Are you doing drawers the width of the cabinet- Yes but split in two.

I wouldn’t split them in two. I’d put dividers in single drawers instead if necessary. You’ll need dividers in your flatware drawer anyway.

I do like the layout - colors, large island etc.

I am concerned about the function. The sink and the rangetop are very close together. Make sure you go back into the showroom or even in your own kitchen and see how tight that might be ( it also just could be the way it looks in the pictures ) . If someone is at the sink and someone is cooking are you going to be very close to eachother.

I have an appliance garage.. I thought it would be great to hide stuff, which it does. but it is bigger than what I really needed and takes up counter space that I would have preferred.

Do you have a lot of display pieces or pretty things? How big is that tall cabinet to the right of the wall ovens? it looks very deep in the picture. Not sure how good that is for plates or stemware.

A floor plan will help get you more comments as well so we can see what sort of cabinet sizes and types you have.

Looks like you are very close!

@sunarakaa would you mind sharing what your ceiling height is in here and what size window you are using in your kitchen? Thanks!

@Debbi Washburn The sink and the rangetop are very close together- We don't have enough space to create ideal gap between them but its not that too closes either,.

How big is that tall cabinet to the right of the wall ovens- 24"Wx15"Dx 107" H

    @Abbie ceiling height -108"

    window -5' x 4'

@sunarakaa Are you doing standard height doors (80")? This means your window will be hung taller that your doors? I am ponding this decision right now! Does that bother you it will look off from the exterior?

Change the end display cabinet to open towards the island - the hardware looks odd as placed currently. Have the lights sit closer to the tops of the windows. Add undercab lighting, and use more than one pendant over the island. I would also eliminate the glass in the cabs as you have a lot going on in the kitchen with windows and other design elements. Also, make sure the ovens are placed so that you don't interfere with someone sitting at the island.

The location of the sink and stove top is fine. I have a similar set up with the main sink and stove top on perpendicular walls in a corner and find it convenient for cooking.

Will you have drawers in your island too?

    last modified: 4 years ago

@Abbie I am remodeling my kitchen. existing doors will stay as it is. We will paint them to matched with our new cabinets. This is our existing kitchen.

@Sammie J I don't have enough space to Change the end display cabinet to open towards the island. I only have 15" to build a cabinet there. another option is this.

@Carolae Will you have drawers in your island too- Yes 5 drawers including trashcan.

The new layout is a big improvement over your current kitchen! I’d prefer the extra counter space to the right of the ovens as shown in the above plan.

Measure the appliances you plan to put in the appliance garage to make sure they will fit.

Actually could you move the appliance garage to underneath the corner cabinet on the range wall, that way you still have room near the dishwasher/ sink for emptying/filling dw and you still have space around the range top.

That upper cabinet to the right of the stove (and left of the sink) is going to be a problem because…..the right side of the cabinet will be a stretch to get at stuff in there and the left side door when open will effectively block your reach into it.

@modpod that will be a smaller AG.

    @plf12652 good point. Thank you.

If you are an active 2 person kitchen, the sink and cooktop will be a bumper corner. It seems like it is enough space, and for one person it is fine. My friend has this in her kitchen and it is really problematic.

I am not sure if you can move the window at all and reduce the size of the garage . That seems like it would be the only way to fix this unless you can change the cooktop wall.

I do agree that the cabinet into the corner will be harder to reach and it's a shame that the cabinets are different sizes on each side of the hood. Did you look at trying to not have the left cabinet and moving the hood to the left?

This may sound crazy - but if the windows are not in place yet, have you thought about putting the hood on the sink wall? It seems like such a nice feature that is tucked sideways. Just a thought

As long as you weight all your options - not color and the pretty things , but the function of the space - that is where a lot of folks make their mistakes. Think about how you cook. How many people are in there? What's it going to be like to cook in there when you are having a party? Will you get frustrated or will you enjoy it? Once you have sorted those things out, then you are ready!

Best of luck - its going to be great no matter what you decide on

@Debbi Washburn I have time to change all the design and Yes, we thought about putting hood on the sink wall but my whole point to remodel our kitchen to make a big window on sink wall because-
1- we can get lake view from there
2- we will get more sun light from there.
If we are putting range and hood there, I will have to compromise on window.

Don't compromise the view or the light coming in!

@Carolae - can i see the pic of your sink and rang top please?

Where is the microwave? I also agree with the other user about making drawers to the right of the dishwasher larger(you can divide them with dividers). Have you taken inventory of all your kitchen appliances, kitchen items, food, linens, cleaning stuff, animal stuff? And designated spots for them in the new layout? I’ve found that helpful for me (currently in a remodel). I’m also not a fan of the appliance garage next to the sink. I think that’s much needed counterspace. Also think a third sconce would look nice over window vs the two? There are a lot of tiny upper cabinets near ceiling and just want to make sure you’ve thought about that space and what is going there? Same with glass cabs. Glass cabinets= lots of cleaning lol

I LOVE my appliance cabinet…but it is several inches deeper than standard cabinet and has multiple outlets. You can see it on end of cabinet run. It is wonderful to have all my kitchen toys in one place, not have a cluttered countertop, and to be able to just pull them forward for use. If you’re a big cook consider a pop up mixer stand in a cabinet.

@Julie Schmooley I am doing speed oven and it will go on top of the wall oven. Really can't do much about tiny upper cabinets near ceiling. I want to do cabinets up to the celling.

@sunarakaa I’ve been traveling all day today but I’ll take and post a photo of my sink and cooktop tomorrow!

@sunarakaa I apologize for not posting this yesterday as promised. Here is a photo of my kitchen corner. My cooktop is on the right and my main sink is on the left, the opposite of yours. The measurement from the right side of the sink to the side wall is 48”, a little bigger than the area to the right of your cooktop. My cooktop is closer to the corner than either your sink or cooktop. You will have plenty of counter space to the left of your cooktop to utilize when cooking. I recommend not having the appliance garage so you have plenty of space to the right of your sink to prep. I also recommend not using quartz as your backsplash as quartz can discolor in high heat and those Wolf cooktops get very hot!

Make sure there is at least 3 inch filler between the refrigerator and microwave/oven. They messed mine up and had to widen it.

What do you think about this?

That’s better use of the corner. You will still have some dead space but that’s the nature of a corner cabinet!

I don't know how to put this, but too many decoration memes are going on - some modern and some more neo-colonial. For my personal taste, I would change to Neolith (no burn problem) and run it all the way up the range wall and sink wall. It would need a truly trustworthy installer.

    I go on the theiryt

I think I would do tall uppers against the ceiling and if enough space remained, do a tool bar or single shelf underneath. instead of the fairly useless "display" cabinets over.

Not liking the cabinets wrapping the corner like shown. Would rather have one simpler, but longer straight cabinet on the cooktop wall and to have the appliance garage thing be underneath that cabinet.

For the place where the cabinet it turned towards the open area, I would move the small cabinet between the ref and the ovens - moving the ovens to the end position. Right now, it's like it's supposed to serve some decorative purpose, but doesn't. It would look better with less stuff going on in that narrow edge. Put some roll-outs in it.

Be a nice place for serviceware -or- do roll-out shelves without front (like a ref) and store your appliances in that! It will make space between the ref doors and the oven doors.

PS: for about 10 seconds, I was hoping the large circle on the island was a fancy Japanese cooking table. I was going to ask you how they worked. ;)

@mdefree Can i see the pic of your space? Thanks!!

When placing the refrigerator next to another appliance like my microwave, there needs to be at least 3 inch space between them. If you don’t have the 3 inch space the refrigerator door will hit into the microwave’s handle. When they first installed my cabinets they didn’t allow this and had to come back and shift my cabinets to the left to allow for the filler.
