Any remedy for rings/spots where furniture is placed on new hardwoods?

A sealer was applied initially to brand new walnut floors, then an oil-based poly and the next day the floors were buffed and the final finish applied. Five days after the final finish was applied we moved our furniture back in. Various types of felt pads were put on the bottom of all the furniture. Everywhere furniture was placed we had rings or spots. We experimented with different pad materials such as quilt, cork and furniture "socks" in addition to several different felt pads - they all left spots or rings. So, 30 days later the installer came back and buffed the floors, not necessarily down to the wood though, then waited 2 days and came back and applied the finish. We moved our furniture back on the floors 10 days later with the same result. (The poly manufacturer recommends a 3 day dry time before returning furniture.) The installer doesn't think this has anything to do with the moisture content, they said it's fine but the poly manufacturer thinks moisture may be the culprit. We certainly don't want to repeat this same process and expect a different result so we're looking for anyone who has lived through this same situation and how they

ultimately remedied it.
