If you need a home office, I think it could be a great space for it. If you're just trying to think of ways to use the space, then think about what activities you enjoy doing. Yoga? Working out? Sewing? Crafting?

If you live alone and don't have to worry about traffic in and out while you're working (and you can do laundry when you're not working), then this space seems adequate. You could put in an L-shaped workspace in the empty corner. While there are options in furniture stores, also check out office furniture stores if you're going to be spending eight hours a day at the desk. If you're trying to keep costs down, look at consignment stores and even thrift stores.

There are theories about what colors to paint offices, but I think it depends on the person. Some people would like something calming and others would like something energizing. If you're going to spend a lot of time there just make it something you can live with. If you want to get fancy you may be able to enclose the washer/dryer in a closet with bi-fold doors. A small area rug or runner may also help the space feel more comfortable.
