How do I repaint chair legs so they don’t scratch and chip?

I want to repaint the legs on these new chairs black. What kind of paint or finish should I use so that it doesn’t just chip and scratch off? We have kids. I want to look really nice and permanent.

You are looking for a unicorn. These chairs looked stained and would need to be stripped and restained or painted. However,the foot rails are a point of wear and will eventually look worn. Life and kids will happen and your stools will show it’s age eventually. FYI, you will probably have better luck leaving the factory stain.

OK thanks. I do know how to stain and refinish would very well, I think I will send it down to the wood and then staying with black beans instead of black paint

Haha Siri really had a different idea than I did. I meant, sand it down and stain with black stain.
