Furniture Design Dilemma Living Room

Do this couch and chair go together?

Hi all, I am on the search for a couch, I bought one from wayfair but pretty much no one I’ve asked said they like it I also bought this chair to go with it from World Market that i like a lot but I’m not sure that the couch and the chair are a good match. In the picture, the couch and chair are not in the final room they’ll be in. I’m working on refinishing the floors in the living room so they’re in the dining room for now. First of all, I wanted to know the overall opinion on how the combo looks together. I also am open to any suggestions aout a different couch style/material or color. I do want to keep the chair though because I like the way it looks and it’s comfortable. Thanks!

I think they will be fine together once they are set up in a room with a coffee table, rug and accessories.

The two pieces are almost a match so add another more comfortable looking chair in fabric that picks up Carmel hues. Do people dislike the looks or comfort level. This isn’t my style but unless it isn’t uncomfortable work to highlight it in room. Add cozy looking lap blanket, maybe in faux fur (no cheesy but elegant). Search for a rug that adds other colors to room. No washed out looks and no rough textures. Basically you want to finish the room so it is inviting. Dimmable bulbs on table lamps, an ottoman to rest your feet, artwork with drama. Think James Bond romantic combing masculine with a dash of wooing.

easier said than done. The M&S Elise sofa is now the wife & kids favourite thing in the living room but no way will I let the kids eat or drink on it. I prefer a single chair closer to the TV. Do you think dark grey sofa, black leather sofa & lighter grey armchair would work. I want a leather sofa but cannot make my mind up re leather or fabric/ black ivory.grey for the armchair.

Hi, while I think the Macys chair is a nice complementary style to the West Elm sofa, I do agree with Kate that with each chair being 45 inches in width, the scale of those 2 chairs grouped together (with potentially an accent table in between them) could "overpower" the sofa. For a side chair, I would suggest something around 30-36 inches (approx. in width and with a height similar to the sofa's. Above are just some examples of chairs at West Elm (currently on sale) that could work (each with several fabric choices). Macys probably had other options too. Good luck and hope that you post your choice(s) when you've narrowed them down.

Great info! Thanks, deco! I was actually kinda thinking about putting some kind of plant on that top tier (if I decide to go ahead with the purchase ... asking price is $50). I wouldn't be sure about what to do with the bottom shelf, but this is an area of our home that most likely won't get much use, so if the table wasn't extremely functional, it wouldn't be a big deal. I think I'm more concerned with coordinating the look of the table with the chairs and also that sitting area to our dining area. I'm so glad there's houzz to keep me in line! :)

You could do the gray sofa....Paula dean linen colored square cocktail table......stripe and floral pillows.....and solid leather chairs or a linen in a tweed fabric on chairs... I really believe over time you will tire of the stripe..you can achieve color and pattern in pillows and art or a rug..I would keep upholstery more of a mix of solids and textures....

I tend to stay away from "matching" furniture, but they look fine together. Add a colorful rug and a nice coffee table. I like using kilim or persian style rugs with caramel leather furniture--looks great.
