Curtain wall? Help. Huge bulky couch. Color scheme.

Hey all. Im ready to throw my living room away. Any advice will help.. So lets get my rant on .. Sorry in advance.. So It bothers me that there is a random window offset. I was thinking of doing a wall to wall curtain. Have no idea where to order a rod that long or even start. Google is not helping. Also i just received my couch that now makes my what i thought was large living room seem small. Ugh. Im a little ocd and it bothers me that the couch is shorter than the rug. So i was thinking of adding end tables to the edges of the couch but not sure since the couch is so bulky already. Tried pulling the couch more onto the rug but then it bothered me the rug looked so much smaller. I can not win. I didnt want this couch i wanted a smaller blue beautiful couch but it was a compromise with the hubby. Anyway suggestions? And what color curtain wall? I have a charcoal grey couch. Grey floors. Light grey walls. Ivory fur rug. I also have a dark navy blue swivel chair on its way.. And the only decor i have so far is a wooden blue, white and pink owl. I was thinking a blue curtain wall or ivory but idk. I know i need a pop of color but not sure if a whole color wall would solve the dull grey living room i currently have.

To be cost effective, you would need to use at least two wooden curtain rods. They join together at a bracket (for strength and hidden seam) with the same metal screw piece used to add finials.

Is there a name for that type of rod? So i could look it up to order. And thank you for the input. I appreciate it ὉF

Not sure that I'd go with wall to wall curtains, since your furniture is dark. Did you try curtains at all on that wall? I'd consider artwork in between the two windows.

I love that ikat pillow on the chair, and would have considered a chair in that - to help break things up.

I havent tried any curtains yet because i always impulse buy set after set untill im satisfied. And alot of money in the hole. I was looking at blue velvet curtains..I just dont know how id feel about a huge color piece.. Thats also why i was thinking of ivory. Even tho the goal is to add color.. Ive never really been a pattern person. The main reason i even thought of a wall to wall curtain is because im a very even type of person and the third window mentally bothers me. To the point i think about it at night. Im a bit off in the head i know...

Is there anyway to return/exchange the huge sectional? It overpowers the room and decor will not change it....sorry.

Im sure that i could exchange it but it would upset my husband. He wanted a "man couch" i figured this big couch was just the end of my "pretty living room vibes " and i probably should just give up on decorating it.

Compromise: he gets to keep the giant TV and speakers, you get the furniture you want. :) And a different sofa could still be plenty comfortable, while fitting in the room better.

I understand, marriage is a compromise a lot of times. I see these couches as manly, yet their size let's the room be decorated. Just ask :)

Or give him a comfy man chair for TV watching!

This is the couch i wanted. :(  i could ask him but i would also feel bad as he always says i never let him choose anything for the house. Lol. There a good 3 feet behind the couch that i still have maybe pulling the couch back a foot or to would make it look leas crowded? Sigh.

Oh, I like your choice so much better! And it looks comfortable, too, as well as not completely overpowering the room and blocking the staircase/front door/windows.

I dont think i have the heart to ask him to return it..

I’m glad you posted that angle, it’s better than I thought from seeing the other photos. :)

I understand what you’re saying. Good advice above, and add some color with pillows, throws, etc. You can make it work!

Thank you all for the advice. I will try to add some a ivory throw and pillows. Maybe it will brighten it up some. Maybe i will pull the couch back a foot and do any of you also agree the wall to wall curtains is a bad idea? Im pretty sure i want them do to the window placement but if its going to make the room look even smaller i could hold off and try something else.

I don't think you have enough wall space on either side for wall to wall curtains (no space at all to the left and not enough on the right), unless your plan is to cover up most of the windows or stack in the center which will make everything look off balance.

If you're just wanting to add color, have you considered outside mount romans (or inside if you're replacing the blinds), or even faux romans would work.

When my DH and I bought our first house I let him pick the couch. He was SO picky and adamant about it needing to be comfortable and not be girly (admittedly I had a yellow floral couch when we met, and I loved it). We shopped forever and finally found a couch he liked that i didn't hate the looks of. And it wasn't cheap!

9 years. 9 YEARS we had that couch and he hated it after one year. HE DIDN'T EVEN LOVE THE COUCH!

I will never let him pick anything else out that has that much impact on our lives haha. There are a lot of factors in picking out furniture that will work in your home and family, and how manly it looks is way down the bottom of the list.

Can you turn the couch around and put the back against the tv wall? This is your main living room, not a guys game room. I bet he picked out that big ass tv and speakers, and that odd bird art on the wall. and probably the dog!

He can find a man couch that actually fits in your room, and that you don't hate and count down the years before you feel it's "used" enough to get rid of. Can you hate that couch for 9 YEARS?

9 years a long time..  Eh. Lol. I got the owl custom made the dog was picked by him and the tv. Yes for gaming. Sigh. And ive thought about putting the couch against the tv wall But on the other side is a staircase which id have no where to put the tv. Roman blinds are very pretty i might just look into that!

Your sectional needs to go………in a corner. Personally I would start over but first try putting it in the corner opposite of windows and move tv across from it. It is too big to float anywhere in that room. Please try it and post a picture.

I would start by doing plantation shutters on both windows and a colorful piece of art between them.

This is a contender for the Top 5 Worst Photoshopped Curtains Ever, but I hope it shows my idea somewhat. :D Pretend the ones on the right go to the floor.

Ivory panels (and they’re fine against the wall), and having a narrow cabinet and lamp in between the windows, with art above. This would serve a couple of purposes: be a sort of entry table, and would help unify that blocked section of the room with the rest. Plus, cozy lighting back there, storage if needed, and would look nice as you come in the door, taking the focus off the back of the sectional.

Of course it depends on how much room is back there (you might be able to move the sectional more towards the other wall).

Your owl is gorgeous, did it inspire your blue chair? You can draw accent colors from that owl. Love the lamp Jinx found! If there’s room in the window corner, a tall houseplant would help soften the look. How about a beautiful blue throw over the couch?

I like mama cita's idea of a throw on the couch. I was wondering about that too to maybe help mask the back of the couch.

Will the tv fit on the stair wall? I don't know the dimensions, but if possible I would try the tv in front of the stair wall, even if hung/sitting lower than currently, and the couch on the current tv wall, wrapping around under the pony wall.

It just feels like the current arrangement is facing the wrong way and closes it off. While on the couch your backs are to everything going on in the rest of the house.

I actually love that photoshop picture it have me a good visual. I do like the idea of a table there and lamp.  Thank you.  And yes the blue chair was an idea from color pull from the owl. Thank you! A plant would be awesome. Everyone says move the couch and i agree! But because the tv is a 85 its bigger than the small wall i have to work with on the staircase wall. Thank you for the suggestions so far everyone. Its really appreciated. Also i attempted to hint i wanted to turn the couch back in to my husband and before i could get it all the way out my mouth he cut me off with "man i love this couch" cringe. I grited my teeth and just agreed as i screamed inside mentally lol
