Help! white Oak Floors stained today & look pink on some boards!

My wide planks white oak floors were stained today with three part neutral from Duraseal to one part country white. There are some boards that had a reddish undertone & those all look pink. What can be done? They were stained today and I believe they put a coat of sealer on from shoe street brand. Any advice on how to proceed? I don’t want pink undertones on any boards!

    Not a pro.

But the red undertone plus the white in the stain is how you got pink (red + white = pink).

You may have to sand it off or live with.

If it's just a few boards, I would live with it!

Those boards were already red toned. The stain just made them pinkish.

I’m just trying to figure out a solution b/c in some areas, there are multiple ones.

Just talked with the flooring guys. There is only stain not sealer on the floor. We are going to make some sample with adding a different stain or perhaps at tinted sealer & see if we can achieve a better less pink tone.

So, we tested adding two different stains to two small areas in the corners of a room, and I don't feel like the stain really soaked in the wood like the original one did. Kind of feel like it is very surface. I am starting to think that an additional coat of stain might not be the way to go. I don't want to have issues down the road with the finish because I put two coats of stain. I may just have to leave with the pink hues. Maybe they will be less pinky with the sealer on and the top coats?

My sister had same when her white oak floors refinished and clear coated. She said the pink eventually faded out.

It has faded out. Thank goodness!

How long did the pink take to fade?

It kept getting better each week & now, I don’t see any pink.
I want to say it had resolved in a couple months as the floors and the finish ages.

    Probably 4-6 months total time

Really? It completely faded? I’m so upset, my white oak floors were just finished with Bona Natural sealer and HD traffic. I see pink all over!

I honestly don’t see any pink now. They neutralized over time. I hope yours do as well. The company told me that would happen because I was very upset when they were first done. I was very skeptical, but it did adjust overtime.

I just did this same combination in a test spot on my freshly sanded floors. I thought for sure this was the blend I wanted to use. All I see is pink.

hi lpaulino, Did you sample with the 3 part Duraseal and 1 part Country White like lana_ayscue, or the Bona Natural like Jill Tomeo? Can you share, please what your final choice was, and how your floors turned out?

Jill Tomeo, I hope the pink in your floors faded and that you are happy with your floors! I'm struggling with choices now and am nervous about making the wrong decisions!

I am having some doubts about the 4" White Oak floors that I had installed recently. I requested 2 coats of Bona Nordic Seal and then 3 coats of Traffic HD Anti Slip. For some reason I noticed when the wood was delivered it looked pinkish, and yet the stamp on the wood said White Oak -- - BUT not all the wood had this stamp just the ones placed at the very top of the stack.

I thought why should I question what is stamped on the wood. Now that everything is installed, the floor looks pinkish especially in natural light. What do you think based on the photos. Does this look like White Oak to you?

" Does this look like White Oak to you? "

Absolutely. White Oak refers to the undertones (not definitely or specifically white) leaning more white but also the grain of the wood.

Normal! I just purchased white Oak wood floor and it has some pink i it too. I never noticed it until I took a picture of the floor. Your floor looks great!

Hi! Can you send me updated pics of your floors? I know you said they were slightly pink, but got better? Mine did the same thing.

Thank you @millworkman, @Mia Smyth for the encouraging feedback. Apologies for replying just now. I haven't logged into Houzz for years now.

Hi @Ash Matocha, I will upload some photos.

After about 2 years of having the 4" White Oak hardwood flooring, I can say that it was the best decision we could have made for flooring for our home, to replace the carpeting. The pinkish tone of the White Oak became irrelevant after moving all the furniture back into the house after the remodel. I don't even notice the pinkish tone now to be honest. Depending on the lighting in the area, the floor looks different.

This is 4" White Oak "Select" grade (no knots) with 2 coats of Bona Nordic Seal (provides a whitish cast which we wanted) and then 3 coats of Traffic HD Anti Slip. Our goal was to make the floor have the "raw wood" look, with a matte finish.
