I love a good before and after- here's my 1970's kitchen!

last modified: 3 years ago

I finally got my dream kitchen after living in this 1970’s time capsul for the past 11 years.

Details:

-Cabinets are Amish made shaker w/ slab drawers in quarter sawn white oak with white frost stain. The island and hood is SW retreat.

-Hardware is Metro pulls and knobs from Brensen.

-Counters are Fantasy Brown with a leathered finish.

-Sink is Blanco in truffle color.

-Facuet and soap dispense is also by Blanco.

-Appliances are GE in slate

-Pendants and sconces are from Wayfair

-Floor is engineered hardware from chestnut

-Backsplash (maybe my favorite part!) is Frammenti Verde Aqua glossy 3x16 with pewter grout. I couldn’t have a gotten a better match with the counters and tile!

Before:

After: We took out the wall with the range on it and expanded into the original dinning room. We also moved the sink to the window and added a island. I know the island is probably controversial to some but we are loving it! It's 30" wide 14' long with a 30x30 butcher block on one end and seating on the other end.

Amazing transformation! Yes, the backsplash deserves extra applause (Fantasy Brown is a tough stone to match) and the cabinets are beautiful!

love the shades of everything. and all will be even more beautiful once a personal piece of art is placed on one or both of the far walls. I think the 3 windows over sink breaks it up so the long and skinny configuration works. Seems like this was challenging in a way but the gorgeous surfaces/ lightish natural cabinets all work so well here. Enjoy the space .

Thanks all! I am so happy with it. and it only took 8 weeks total (5 without any kitchen) so not too painful. :)

@Valinta, I was concerned about the steps too but it's really not bad at all, maybe 3-4 extra. The kitchen is only about 12' wide to begin with so that helps. I have tried to think through my cooking process to arrange what goes where to make it as efficient as possible.

@herbflavor Thank you! I have a nice buffet piece coming that i'm going to put on the back wall with art/photos around to add a little personality.

@RedRyder, the tile was the decision i agonized most over. I ordered a sample from tilebar and then it went out of stock so I had to do a little sleuthing to find the same thing. AND i never got to match it to the counter in person before ordering. So definitely got super lucky.

That's quite a before and after for sure. I like most everything except the cabinet color. It's doesn't seem to quite fit with the flooring. Otherwise, it looks great!

Love your island, especially love the angular arrangement at the seating end of the island and the butcher block at other end. I often think island seating is not inviting for good conversation, but your seating is delightfully inviting and the angular shape is much more pleasing and interesting to the eye than if it was a round or rectangular shape. Well done!

Hi! I know this is an old post. Do you feel like the green cabinets are hard to keep clean? Like watermarks or grease? I want our kitchen cabinets to be in SW retreat too.
