White walls/dark trim in new kitchen?

Emily Pfeiffer

Hi there! We're building a new kitchen. The floors are vinyl slate-look (grey, on the darker side). The cabinets are gorgeous stained wood in "pumice" (it's a taupe - grey with a little bit of warmth - medium toned). The walls are white (subway tile backsplash and paint) and so are the countertops (because we have to brighten it up with those other gorgeous-but-dark choices.

Accent color will be a funky apple green, used very sparingly on less-permanent things (towels, pendants).

Trim color: I found a paint that matches the wood color of the cabinets, and it's a gorgeous color (Olive Gray from Valspar if you want to look it up).

But. 2 questions:

1) if it's too matchy to the cabinets, is that weird or cool? (Darker is too dark, lighter just looks clashy, and I don't want to introduce other colors so I'm hoping it's cool but I'm second guessing myself.)

2) Is darker trim in a white-walled kitchen a strange look? Dated?

Thanks so much!
