Threshold? Don't ti;e that. You use a SOLID surface, usually one that matches tops. or shower floor.

You don't want grout on a horizontal surface. Same is true in a niche. Quartz, or whatever your tops are.

And Schluter elsewhere is your best option.

Except for the largest surface, the floors.... I still don't understand why designers consistently spec tile for shower floors. With so many options for solid bases it's baffling...

Tile for shower floors.....for centuries, and not large format. Solid surface for threshold, bench tops, and niche base. Mitering (clarify the type of miter being suggested, for example we use a quirk miter which doesn't come to a frail point but creates a bit of a joint and is backfilled properly with mortar for strength). It's a very classic detail, unless you want a contemporary look, than a profile edge like Schluter is fine (but our clients generally prefer a detailed miter as it doesn't introduce another material). Mitering the edge is considered a more upscale appointment. The fact that your installer suggests it MAY indicate a higher level of skill. If he/she wasn't capable I doubt they would bring it up. Go for it.

Solid for threshold, I prefer a solid material for shower base since all those small grout lines get gross after awhile as for the rest schluter is a much better choice than mitered and is almost invisible when done BTW I hate niches in showers I have no idea why shampoo bottles are a design element. We have international students they share bathroom and they have a small caddy that carries all the stuff they need for a shower and it goes back to their rooms keeps the bathroom looking tidy and is convenient for them. In our bathroom we keep the stuff in a cabinet .I think part of this would be what style is the space as far as miter versus schluter too.

Agree w The Dragon as usual. Properly filled w epoxy* Miters are as strong as the tile selection.
