what colors to use with pumpkin pine hardwood floors and gray walls?

Hi, I need help with choosing colors for bedding and furniture for a house purchased that was built in 1830's with beautiful pumpking pine floors. I was considering very pale pink/rose duvet to complement the gray walls, also navy blue and light blue cuvet covers. Any suggestions is appreciated :)

Are you open to painting the walls? Green and white would look amazing with your floors if you want to highlight them. You could add pink accents to a green room.

If you want to use more pinks, you might be better off with white or beige walls.

This room successfully combined pink, gray, and navy, but mainly because they covered most of the hardwood floors with a large rug, which could also be an option.

I would chose a very light rose or cream matelasse bedspread; it will showcase your gray walls and pumpkin flooring. You have a lovely bedroom!!

Look at your wardrobe and garden. Would you wear a pink or light blue top with pumpkin color pants? If not, look at darker contrasts, pick up the gray on your walls in a pattern bed covering, and pick up the pumpkin color in pillows and accessories. Add some brightness through a bit of bling in lighting, mirrors, etc in warm tones.

I agree with Verbo. Gray is very 20-teens and wouldn’t have been used in an 1830’s home.

Those pumpkin pine floors are beautiful, wow. To me, they'll go with any bedding/duvet colors you mention, and almost anything else, though keeping them a traditional look. It's the walls that are the problem. They are incongruous with the room and the home. I know you said you don't want to change the wall color, but I think you are letting the wall color govern everything and boss you around. Until the wall color changes, you'll never get the rest of the room quite right.

Any blue in the room will make the orange tone in the floor look even more orange so I suggest staying away from blue. paint is inexpensive. As someone else suggested, I would like to see white walls. Soft greens for the bedding and a tree with dark green leaves and some art work that brings in the colors of nature. I think it will all go with your gray furniture but if you have the energy, you could repaint the blue piece and the bedside piece dark green.

How is the room arranged now? If we could see all the walls, we might suggest a better arrangement. True, gray is out of date and overdone. Sage green is pretty with floors like yours and is a soothing color for the bedroom. If it weren't overly energizing, I'd pump up the orange.

“Pros” that make blanket statements like ‘x color is out of date’ only know how to follow trends

Thanks, Donald. Don't consider myself a "Pro" as I'm retired from that gig. A majority of the dilemmas I see on Houzz are posted by people who seem to be into trends; especially the cool gray one. I did that color in the early 90's on the interior and exterior of my home, and wasn't surprised when it eventually emerged as a "go to" neutral, but I do believe its days are limited. As people stay home more and more, I think warmer colors that make their environment more cozy/comfortable feeling than the cooler grays will be "on trend" for the majority of folks. As for myself, I'm not a trend setter, nor on board with most trends in design, decor or even real life. But, just to throw a kicker in there, my bedroom is dark charcoal brown with bronze drapes, so I'm not entirely opposed to grays but do like warmer, darker versions of most colors.

LOL on this site DATED is a curse word. People LIVE to not be 'dated' which is why the non stop CHANGE! GRay may or may not be dated but it is for sure depressing and drab MOVE ON. 'pumpkin maple' is a new term I found amusing. Your floors are beautiful--work with them!!!

@Donald - I don't see YOU providing any suggestions for the OP. Let's hear it, help the OP rather than make a dismissive statement that doesn't help anyone. Also, the dark gray wall does not work in an 1830s house or in that room or with those floors; it has nothing to do with trends.

Bless your heart @M Miller. I did actually add to the discussion. I read what the OP wrote about not wanting to change the wall color, I liked the options Celerie provided and I rolled my eyes at the comment from some one that said unless they changed the color of the walls that room would forever be miserable, like some Grimm Brothers old crow casting a curse on the homeowner. But I’m one of the lucky ones that believes the age of a house has nothing to do with what colors you can or can’t use (unless the OP mentioned this was a period appropriate B&B? An historic house museum?), everyone sees color differently meaning not everyone thinks dark gray is cold or that a cold gray room isn’t desirable, or that a color found in nature like a storm cloud or angry sea is somehow dated or overused or that it limits how you should use it or where or if you’re even allowed to like it.

Thank you so much everyone for your very helpful feedback and suggestions. I'm not an expert at all when it comes to colors but I agree with some of the reasons mentioned here. Unfortuatnley I can't change the wall color for now and have to work with what I got. I watching some youtube videos and reading on color coordination but I am having a hardtime using the color wheel/harmony. Will the floor color fall under yellow or orange?

I was watching Jameas Bond movie, Skyfall, last night and noticed one of the painting in the movie. Beautiful color combination! Then realized that orange/yellow colors are very close to my floor color. Do you think I can use this color palatte to work around what I have?? Maybe soften up the wall with nautral curtains....If not, maybe I can just use this photo on the wall :)

You are on the right track with warm colors vs rose or navy. I’d head towards boho scandi, which will be a great look with the floors, plus room will feel calm, and inviting. Accessories are an important aspect of boho so try different things.

Imagine your grey walls in room below with additional grey cushions on the bed.
