My contractor insisted on 3 coats of Rubio Monocoat

When I went through my final walkthrough for my refinished hardwood floors. The contractor told me that to get to the color I requested, he required three coats of Rubio Monocoat. Per product instructions, the product won’t bond to itself and multiple coats are not required. My concern it that I have read multiple coats is a big problem and can cause for the hardwood to stain more easily. If the contractor was trying to achieve more pigment (per my request), I’m surprised they didn’t recommend water popping and instead have put multiple layers of Rubio on the floors. Has anyone had experience with this?
