If it’s that unsafe, why would high end hotels use it?

High end hotels have a commercial maintenance schedule for care, use floor polishing machines regularly, and apply anti slip coatings as part of that regular care. Homeowners don’t want the big expense or significant time associated with that type of maintenance.

I have also been in high-end hotels where I took my life in my hands on their floors. Large tiles with a low coefficient of friction are dangerous. Coefficient of friction is a rating on tiles. Make sure to read up on this and look for it when shopping. You may need to go to manufacturer’s websites to get this rating.

One way to get a shiny floor and good friction is to use small tiles. Grout breaks up the slip factor very well. That is why traditionally, bathroom floors used mosaic tiles.

I had it in my last home and we loved it. It wasn’t slippery unless I got water all over the floor and wore flip flops. My shower wasn’t polished, but the rest of the floor was. It was absolutely beautiful. Lived with it for two years. No accidents or regrets. Put a bath mat down by the tub or shower when you get out.
