Advice for curtains. These look like a movie theater screen cover. Ugh

We’ve been living in this house for 6 months without any window treatments. I could not bring myself to put holes in the walls, but this white room (BM Swiss Coffee) is screaming for layers.
After much debate over plantation shutters, custom curtains that start at ceiling height, and Roman shades…. I decided to take the plunge and put up rods and divide the windows.

The curtains up surrounding the FP are old IKEA curtains (that are discontinued) but I hung them just to experiment with colors.

I was encouraged - I liked them. I assumed I’d like others. So I ordered a patterned print and hung them on the big wall.

Well… I do NOT like them. Actually, they lasted one day. Looked like a movie theater curtain to me.

Now… what would you advise?
Should I uses white / ivory sheers (they aren’t needed for privacy)? I was trying to add color to a bland room - these curtains were not the answer.
Help…. Please. Any thoughts are appreciated.

I like the white ones. I agree the pattern is too much. Get a great big piece of colorful art for the left wall. Get a throw for each sofa.

Pretty room. I also think you should have drapes/curtains but I’m not sure you have found the right ones yet.

I’m looking at your nice rug - traditional and formal style. Your first drape choice definitely didn’t play well with the rug (just like the gingham at the fireplace). The white ones are better, but my choice would be off-white semisheers. Perhaps a seeded voile.

It’s a good idea (above) to add color and texture with soft throws on the furniture. And art.

I would go with custom off white curtains up above the arches. Then I would get matching romans for the windows next to the fireplace. Looks too crowded there with curtains.

I agree the windows next to the fireplace should be simpler. Roller shades or Roman shades.

For the rest of the windows-
I do think the arches are very limiting.
But I like the plainer white ones

Thank you for responding. This has been a long project of learning lessons the hard way.
Naturally, the lighter curtains are a discontinued color (from IKEA). So the hunt to find something similar begins.
I moved the lighter one to the grand wall.
I’m still concerned about it looking like a movie theater when all up.
Was thinking about floating a sheer window scarf across them - soft, understated - but I’m reading that window scarfs aren’t popular.

I'd go above the arch as noted above.

Patterned curtains, off the shelf, rarely work because they never match the pattern across enough panels.

Thank you (all) for offering advice. A few follow up questions:

    1. About the FP mantle decor - The area is limited to space (traded mantle for TV mount) and scarf is my feeble attempt to bring the color black into a room that lacked color. I'm excited to swap it out if it's working against the room.

    2. The windows next to the FP - I like the idea of roman shades for them - I'll look into that. I had tried the curtain panels here first bc I felt the TV is really tall - the curtains are at that height to soften the lines. But, if they are too much - I'll move them over to the big wall.

    3. The grand wall - is it ok that the curtain rods are divided into 3 and curtains will have the sconces peeking out from between them? We use those sconces every night.

I had a Interior Designer here back in January. She was perplexed by these windows, but said that if I use ceiling height custom drapes - I should take the lights out, which I'm hesitant to do.

    4. I am on the hunt for a blanket ladder - height and storage for the (literal) mound of blankets that are out of view (intentionally, bc they are mis-matched)

    thanks again,
