I am toying with an embroidery project (socks with an initial) for my boys. They love a handmade gift. I am rubbish at such, so we'll see how it goes. I do have a photography project going for my husbnad's gift. He sent me 250 roses the other day. Surely i can find some way of turning that into a cool image.

No homemade gifts here. Our gift list is fairly short. Maybe some type bread/cookies to hand out to delivery guys, put in with hair gal's gift of money, etc.

I did pull out some fabric today (had for probably two years), to make some relaxed/fake roman shades for the kitchen and breakfast nook. It'd be nice to have them up for the holidays. Does that count? LOL

nekotish, you have given me an idea to frame hankerchiefs. I have some but I am not sure if they are frame worthy. I will have to check. Your husband must be a very talented woodworker. Your kids must look forward to the handmade gifts.

Nicole & Sheesh, For my birthday, in August, my husband ordered a large bouquet of roses from Farm Girl flowers.

That got him rooting around ordering directly from growers himself, and of course the more you buy, the less the cost per stem, so yes, he is sweet, but other forces were at work too ;-)

Dh is a very talented wood worker - he made our king size Mission style bed and the computer desk/book cases and filing cabinet for our den. He likes to work with quarter sawn oak. Sheesh, I always made our girls (who are twins) matching flannelette nighties for Christmas when they were little, I should do that again!

Sheesh, our granddaughter is also a frehman at NYU! How is it going for yours? Ours loves it & has adjusted well. She is in the Tisch School of the Arts.

I make candles for a couple people who I know like them. Other than that, its all bought.

As usual I will be making 12 loaves of trailrunner’s recipe for biscotti. My DIL and fam love it!

I’m making sloe gin and Christmas puddings.

I tend to do baking and food related gifts.

I just finished canning a 1/2 dozen jars of hot red pepper jelly and then 7 jars of pumpkin.

My Christmas cake is into the oven for Sunday and that too is also a big request.

My son and his family generally put out a request for anything that I can, so, along with gift cards ( 3/4 of my grandchildren are teenagers) that will most likely wrap up most of what we get into this year

We make raspberry cordial each fall for Christmas giving, DH makes ornaments on his wood lathe, this year it's angels. We made ladders one year too. Last year we made corn hole games and cutting boards, a rolling pin..DH has taken over the home made gifts...my hands don't hold up to much anymore!!!

My siblings and I, all exchange family gift boxes. According a long-established pact, they should be mostly handmade. We all really look forward to them. Some of my siblings are very creative, alas I am not. Last year my sister sent the best plum infused gin as part of her package. Her neighbor has this amazing plum tree and she is welcome to the pickings. Over the summer I made peach jam for part of my box. Ideas for rounding out the box include spiced nuts, and homemade granola, and some baked goods, I am thinking chocolate babka and linzer tarts, or hamentashen, or rugelach, or maybe a little of everything.

Will make Annie1992's grandmother's ginger cookies for local neighbors. Last year I sent the recipe and ingredients to a friend in California.

Mostly funerals.....no one I knew. ie: the neighbors dads, died within 3 months of each other, boss's daughter/years of fighting cancer. Other boss's wife got cancer(the one I put together a gift basket for after her chemo, I also sent flowers. The update on that, she has lumps to remove in her breasts, then another round of chemo, but was told she's cancer free).

I forgot to mention that I am making a "family favourites" cookbook through Create My Cookbook for my daughters and neice and nephews. About 100 recipes, not many are original but are all recipes that we've enjoyed over the years. Added basic things like making broth, gravy, etc. The website is quite user friendly and the prices are reasonable. There is a "notes" section on each recipe page where you can add reminisenses and anticdotes about each recipe. I'm opting for the hard cover, spiral bound books.

I may make some party favors for my dd's friends. I haven't decided what that will be yet. Beyond that, I have no plans to make anything.

Nekotish, I created a family recipe book for Christmas about 10 yr ago-- the company i used went out of business so I cannot get reprints. I have been thinking about doing a new one for the younger generation-- only a few of them have copies. I suspect it is too late for this year but I should start preparing for next year.

My dad was the cook in our house-- he never used a printed recipe and many of his recipes were his mother's and never written down. To make the cookbook, I collected recipes from family members but I also spent many hours cooking with my dad capturing the recipes he had in his head. Ingredient amounts, techniques and tips. His Thanksgiving Creamed Onions call for Aunt Nellie's and only Aunt Nellie's holland style onions (which I just picked up today!) .. his New Year's Day pork and sauerkraut require adding a whole, pealed vidalia onion that cooks on the stove until the onion melts away. It is cherished by all of us now that he's no longer with us.

ETA .. i got carried away with memories and forgot to share how much the recipe book was appreciated. It made both my parents cry... and dad gave a page by page tour to everyone who visited or called over the holidays. It was a beautiful hard cover binder with section dividers and many family photos and memories along with the recipes. Very much a labor of love... but so worth it!

In the past, we have made meat spice rubs, wassail kits, jams and marmalades, pecan praline sauce, spiced or candied nuts, peanut and other nut brittle, a popcorn brittle that is similar to Poppycock, vanilla extract, cranberry and raspberry cordials and vin de pamplemousse. I'm in the mood to make the vine de pamplemousse, but we have zero grapefruits this year. We will be making Meyer lemon marmalade, which is wonderful, and possibly some of the nutty things. We have peach jam from the summer to share.

I made neck scarfs for the boys birthdays ( 10/28 11/5 and 12/7) for Xmas boys and dad are getting body pillows, so i made them each a pillow slip for them and the boys each also get two reg size slips to go with their rooms .mom gets a scarf, and i made her a throw blanket( close to twin size) and dad gets a pile of new dish rags( old ones are worn out.) all except pillow slips are crocheted .

Made a Christmas quilt for DD and DSIL. It's very pretty and I know they'll love it but, not gonna lie, glad it's finished! My love of quilting is experiencing a rapid demise.

I have been busy making wreaths and center pieces and other crafts. We are having our Garden club annual sale on the 20th, some of these will be sold there and I will give all of the money to our garden club. I have made some as gifts for friends. I have enjoyed doing crafts again. Here's a few of the items. I will be making a lot of cobblers again this year as part of the baked goods.

I have taken some embroidery and crochet classes in the past several months and had intentions of making lots of holiday gifts…now that it’s mid Nov and I haven’t started one, I might need to set my sights on Christmas 2022. I am still hoping to crochet cowls for my two besties. I added embroidery to a flannel shirt for DD and DS’ GF saw it and loved it, so I’m also planning to do that for her.

Usually make/bake something for a handful of neighbors and friends each year. I think I’m going to make Martha Stewart ginger cookies (a recipe that always works for me) and stack them in welk jars.

I am making a couple of jars of green tomato mincemeat for my DD (Old Fanny Farmer cookbook recipe; I froze the last of the tomatoes to keep until I get around to it) and some snacky things like spiced nuts, sugared nuts, chex mix-ish and so forth for her SO. I have also bought some various more exotic pickles, peppers, & cooking sauces to fill out the basket - she loves to experiment with new-to-her flavors.

I was just thinking of kitchen gifts. I am doing some sewing for a couple of gifts -- a phone wallet as a gift card/cash holder, a tech bag, possibly a couple of other bags. I think I'm going to make a new lanyard for my son's work ID. He had a school specific one before, but had a pretty plain one when I saw it yesterday. And I will probably be making a couple pair of PJ pants -- special fabric and extra length.

Allison, I have ordered from Bouqs also. I have sent some gifts and got a couple here, including the ranunculus. I really enjoyed those and they lasted longer than I expected. I have not made full use of the other discounts though.

I've been making these to keep me busy for a couple of hours each time, so two per weekend. I brought it up before, but they're purses I was making for myself a couple of decades ago. Every time I make one, my child wants it?! I guess they can have them. If you look in the very forefront, one is a coin purse.

Here's another. I may keep this one. The buttons are from my great-grandmother's sewing box. Every one of these purses is made from material that I loved for some reason or another.

If I could just keep my child's grubby paws off of them... but they won't, and they are good gifts. I guess.
