Bathroom Sink is too small for countertop! Can we fix this problem?!?

We just had our bathroom countertop installed with an undermount sink. It looks terrible! It is completly our fault- originally we were having an 18 inch vanity built, so we ordered a narrow sink. Months later, after a long delayed carpenter failure, we hired a new carpenter who designed a larger vanity using alternate depths. Monday the countertop installer came, I showed him the faucet and showed him where the undermount sink box was. It was cut and placed before I realized how small it looks and how far away it is from the wall!!

What can I do?!?! Can we install a larger drop in and enlarge the marble? Is a much larger undermount possible? We’ve been without bathrooms since the freeze in February, I feel sick thinking I rushed something carelessly- just wanted to be back in our home for Christmas!

Something you didn't expect - requires a blt of adjustment - how far is back of sink from wall? I think you can 'fill and flourish' with that luxurious amount, with a suitable faucet design. What kinds have you been considering?

What mirror? it could bump out a bit and not be a big deal, I guess. Your wood is 'natural' blonde? this is a bit rough, but want to show ya-

There is almost 6 inches behind the faucet. Lots of space.

I think you are panicing unnecessarily. I went and measured the space behind my bathroom sinks. This bathroom has 5-1/2”

    And this one has 6-1/4”

My vanities are 21” deep. No one has ever said that a have too much space behind my sinks.

It will look fine once your faucet is installed.

I agree it will be fine. Use a larger faucet and a larger mirror as suggested above and it will look fine when done.

Just get it recut to the size you want. It looks funny like it is.

It does not look funny like it is. It just needs the faucet mounted and the mirror hung and it will be fine. I think you are being fooled by the big empty space that will be taken up by the faucet.

The sink looks small, please post a front-facing picture.

I think it will look OK with the faucet in place.

Recutting for a larger sink at this point is likely not an option because the faucet holes have been drilled.

Why do you want it bigger? For using it, or just for the way it looks?

If it’s just for looks, I think your panic is unfounded. Put in a nice big faucet and it will be fine.

IMO the jut out was not needed and I assume you approved that .

Just going by the photos, I think it looks too small, yes. Reminds me of a prep sink in a kitchen … and a bulky mirror and big faucet will only make it look even smaller and more out of proportion.

But — photos are hard to go by. Might look fine in person. Talk to the pros you’ve hired, get their input on it.

Overall that's an awesome vanity space! The extra space behind the sink will make it a lot easier to clean.

Not a pro, .. I think it looks fine, don't see a problem, goes nicely with the breakfront cabinetry.

"Can we install a larger drop in and enlarge the marble?"

You can install a larger undermount or topmount. The topmount will be considerably less expensive. I'd do either without pulling the top.

It feels like the size of a prep sink. I am looking at drop in options right now

What size is your sink? [I agree that we can't see like you, in person].

Does drop in mean it'll have a seam - in my kitchen I've been 'waiting' to have seamless.

How big is the actual bowl? Sometimes going from a top mount sink to an undermount throws people off because the sink seems so much smaller when it really isn't. Most vanity undermount sinks have a bowl size of 16- 19 " wide x 11 - 13" front to back.
