dining room - add matching console on other side of fireplace?

I have a console to the left of the fireplace. It was suggested to put another console, just like it, on the other side of the fireplace. Plz advise thoughts.

Opps I should not have selected pole as I don’t have a pic with the console on the right. Sorry for the confusion.

Is the tree not good on that side, near the corner?

Yes, the tree is good in the corner. I have it placed more in the center of the window for it to get the light it needs. I sometimes move it to the corner when I expect company.
You bring up a good point.

I think the glass console you have with the round wire decor belongs in a hall.

Was this room meant to be the living room? It looks like a tight arrangement for the table and chairs. The rug is too small, consider an 8 x 10 and put 2 chairs on each side, one on each end.

How about two large pieces of art or mirrors on either side of the fireplace?

I'd try moving 2 chairs to the ends, a sort of 'filler', and trim 2 outer of plant.

Was this space designed as a living room originally? As far as the console, I would not do another one. You can use a plant in that corner, but that tree is too big for that space.

As you can see there is a mirror over the FP. I did try 2 large pieces of art on either side of FP but it overwhelmed the room.

    The rug is 8 x 10

It’s a lovely room, keep giving your tree a hair cut and place in corner when guests arrive. Gosh we get so serious and critical. Show some red and have a Merry Christmas !

@rrgardner Off topic but have to say that I’m really impressed by your Fiddle Leaf! Do you try to root the trimmed off branches?

IMO huge pieces of art on either side of the FP would not even overwhelm this space . Where is the LR since it must be huge . I think if you did a bit more sunstantial console it would work better . That tree is amazing and I think if you let it fill the other space it would be fine to have just the one console

The table with those chairs looks like it should be set for two on each side not three. The console and light don't work at all. Is there a 'dining room' server on the opposite side, we see a corner I think. Perhaps all you need are two extra chairs for seating when needed on either side of the fireplace. Somehow the table looks cramped yet I see plenty of room around the table.

The problem is balance. The fireplace and table are centered. You want to leave that alone, and don’t place anything else in close proximity to the fireplace. No art on the wall flanking the fireplace. I would lose the tree - it’s too big, and put a bar cart, extra chair, or some other small piece there. You can put some things over by the stairs, but leave the fireplace area alone - it looks nice.

Those chairs are too big for that table the way it's set up. Move one to each end. The console and light don't work in there. Lose the tree. Too big. Your floors are gorgeous!!

In a dining room if you have the space it is very convenient to have a buffet or a sideboard, or both.

This is my thought at 2 a.m. -

strong rectangular 'cage' and mirror that is round... what about photoshop showing one or the other? Personally, I think a dressier chandelier would be ideal.

I am thinking maybe just put a chair under the art. You have a lovely space!!

Just fooling around... I think the room needs something tall (in addition to the fantastic fig tree!), and something vintage or antique. Maybe an armoire in a medium tone wood. To me, the mirror interferes with the light fixture, so I would add large rectangular art above fireplace, and hang the round mirror over a console table (perhaps the current one) near the window. One of the photos shows a cabinet on the other side of the room, which should be taken into account -- could you include photos of that wall as well?

After photoshopping a chair and then a console I realized that nothing really looks right in that area. Perhaps move the current art to the other side above your console and then get either a large piece for that space or two and stack them one over the other.

More photos of the space. We converted the LR to a dining room.

Thoughts on putting the console in front of this window!

I took this standing in front on the fiddle fig

Took this standing by my front door

Trying to answer all the questions posed.
I don’t do anything with the clippings from the fiddle fig. Just throw them out.

Thanks for answer on Fig clips. I wondered if they could be rooted & added to bottom of a bigger pot with that tree in it. Of course, th the pot & tree seem to be bordering on too big to move around anymore even with the wheeled caddy!

You are doing a wonderful job with your home. the orange chair is terrific, do you plan to get something else orange for the living room?

I’m looking back at the photos I sent and think I didn’t do a good job taking the pictures. The area’s are very spacious. Especially without the Christmas tree. Some of the pics I took made it looked crowded.

rrgardner your home is beautiful, you are doing a great job. With a few tweaks I'm sure you'll make it perfect. To me the console feels a little lightweight compared to the table and buffet cabinet. Is there someplace else you could use it. I think just some nice large art pieces on either side of the fireplace would be perfect to finish off the room. I love that you repurposed a probably not used room into a very nice dining room.
