Certainteed landmark weatherwood vs driftwood

3 years ago

Which roof color would you choose for an off white house with black windows? More warm. Both colors have a bit of brown but come off as grey.

Driftwood is the darker one on top.

Weatherwood sample is on the bottom of pic.

    What does the house look like? Any other colors -- maybe trim?

  • 3 years ago

    @PPF.

    we are building a new home. havent tested any colors yet. Black windows will be installed next week. I was thinking maybe a dark trim also.

  • 3 years ago

    Hard to judge from just photos. I don’t think you can go wrong with a gray/charcoal roof with off white siding and black windows.

    What's happening at the foundation level?

    There are lots of off whites.

    As chloebud suggested, I might look to a darker color. There are some good grays and blacks in the landmark line.

  • 3 years ago

    @PPF.

    There will be stone where the concrete is now. we cant do black since our neighbor is building a similar house and they have moire black installed. my husband doesnt want the homes to be too similar. they also will have white siding and black windows.

  • 3 years ago

    @chloebud do you think the driftwood would fit the bill for gray or it comes off more beige?

    Have you chosen the stone? All these things need to work together.

    Have you considered something other than an off white for the body?

  • 3 years ago

    @PPF.

    we are open to other ideas also. but since we already have black windows it seems our color schemes are limited.

    dont have stone yet. maybe something similar to this. we would have siding instead of stucco.

    This is the neighbor’s house that we have to make different from. They will paint siding white and add stone

  • 3 years ago

    Dark roof .. then you can paint any colour you want ..I don't know anyone who worries about roof colour when doing the outside of a house.. maybe it's because we don't use shingles in the UK !

  • 3 years ago

    Zory, my own preference would be a roof that definitely reads gray. PPF mentioned other choices in Landmark. Do they have something more charcoal? I think that could be really nice. Medium gray to charcoal roofs look great and allow lots of options with other color choices. I also like them better than black roofs that can often look too severe/harsh and pull a lot of focus, at least to me.

  • 3 years ago

    @chloebud

    Landmark has a charcoal color but it seems darker then the moire black that the neighbor has.

    With the grays, do you have to worry about a blue hue coming out?

    I think a blue hue could be more limiting. There are plenty of gray roofs that don't look the least bit blue. This is one example of a gray roof I think is nice. It's also appears to be more of a solid gray without all the variegation some roofs can have. Too much of that can often look busy. You could go a little darker than this.

    Just wanted to say I'm not a pro...not even close. There are some helpful guidelines, but I think your own personal taste is important. One thing I do think is factual is the roof color should definitely be considered when choosing other features of the exterior.

    I did this quickly so I'm not sure if these are still their color choices. Is Pewter the one you said looked darker than Moire Black? It doesn't appear that way here.

  • 3 years ago

    These are the ones availabe here. pewter one is too blue. charcoal is darker then moire black

    "We have Moire Black shingles and they appear to be dark gray..."

    Hmmm...then that could be the one.

    CeeWhy has a good point regarding people not noticing you have the same roof color as your neighbor. Lots of people in our neighborhood have gray roofs, including us.

    ETA - This is the Georgetown Gray CeeWhy mentioned. Definitely way too much busy variegation for me.

    Zory, What did you choose? I personally like both the Weathered Wood and the Driftwood with a creamy painted brick. I think the Driftwood goes more gray so it would be the best of both worlds for you.

  • 3 years ago

    @henryandporter . We chose the Driftwood and I really like it. Havent painted the siding yet but im thinking to do Shoji White. Bring a more warmer look out.

  • 3 years ago

    Zory, Thank you. I'm going to take your lead and head on with the Driftwood myself. May I ask, did you stick with the standard CT Landmark shingle or did you install the Landmark Pro Max Def. I am concerned the Pro Max Def may be a bit too pixelated looking? Thanks for the reply.

  • 3 years ago

    We got just the regular one.

    Sometimes it looks more warm gray, in the shade it is a bit darker

  • 2 years ago

    @Zory do you have any pictures of your painted house? Currently picking a roof as well and between Driftwood and Moire Black. Everyone keeps telling me Moire Black but I also like the idea of a slightly warmer grey roof w/ warmer white paint and black windows.

  • 2 years ago

    @Tressie we decided to go with shoji white for main color and eldorado grand banks stone.

  • 2 years ago

    @Zory Beautiful combo! What color are your gutters and the front roof supports? They don’t look quite black and have a hint of brown in this photo.

  • 2 years ago

    The gutters are bronze, just picked a darker bronze from the sample stack.

    we have sw urban bronze on the porch and the other doors so the gutters match perfectly with that. will probably paint our garage doors that color also.

    when asking about the front roof supports are you talking about the beams? those are douglas fir stained mixture of cabots black and cordovan brown.

  • 2 years ago

    Zory, your home is gorgeous!

    Zory thanked Stacey
  • 2 years ago

    You made great choices! The roof is really neutral and looks gorgeous with the Shoji white. But if/when you want another color, that roof is going to match a ton of colors.

    Gorgeous house!

    Thank you! All the choices were pretty stressful but in the end i’m pretty happy with it :)

    @Zory Yes, I was asking about the front portico posts and beams. I also noticed the natural planking on the ceiling of the portico — is that douglas fir too? What kind of finish/stain? I am thinking of doing that in my entry to brighten things up. Such nice details!

  • 2 years ago

    @pbon we have pine tongue and groove on the ceiling. It is just a clear stain. I didnt want to mess with botchy pine not matching so just left it natural.

    is that landmark driftwood or landmark pro driftwood?

  • 2 years ago

    @House Flipperz just driftwood.

  • 2 years ago

    What stone product is that?

  • 2 years ago

    Eldorado Grand banks stone.

  • last year

    @Zory do you have anymore pictures of your house that you can post? I am also wanting to do driftwood on our white modern farmhouse but I want to make sure it doesn’t look too brown when the sun isn’t shining on it. :)

    I need help choosingba roof color for.my home. I am considering Certainteed Landmark Weather Wood or Driftwood, but I am also open to other color options. What would you pick?

  • 25 days ago

    Ricardo - Timberline allows you to upload your house photo and play with roof colors. I know you said you’re using another company, but playing around with shades of gray will help you decide.
    I would go for a medium gray shingle. Darker than your current one.

    Your house is beautiful!

  • 24 days ago

    Ricardo Henao is that your home? Have your roofer layout a bundle of your two choices on the roof itself. Do not make a selection only from a color chart or shingle sample board.
