Poll: Rugs for U shaped (really D shaped) kitchen:

Our kitchen is really a D shape with walkway opening at the top of the curve and bottom of the curve. Sink, DW, oven are in that order along the curve. Pantry, cooktop, fridge are along the straight side of the D. Trying to figure out best rug placement and combo. Logically to me, would be two options: 1. Small rug or mat in front of sink AND 5ft runner along cooktop cabinet. Or 2. A single area rug in the middle of the kitchen area, either 4x6 or 5x8. It is not a large kitchen. Floor area in working kitchen is approx. 9x12 then opens into breakfast area. The breakfast area currently has a solid darker gray kilim rug under a dining bench, oval table and 2 chairs (shown in 3rd photo) Last photo just for attention - showing 2 patterned rugs. SMH about being indecisive about this! Thanks for suggestions.
