Wall color coordination after shower tile refinishing

18 months ago, I had my shower pan, shower tiles, and bathtub surround tiles refinished as a less expensive method of updating my bathroom. The challenge has been the refinished shower tiles read yellow at night when I am home most often. During the daytime, the refinished tiles are more like a light greige. I tried changing from soft warm bulbs to daylight bulbs, but it only exacerbated the yellow in the tiles at night. I have also tried painting the room five times. The walls before refinishing were Sherwin Williams Krypton, then they were Nordic Bleu (too dark), then they were SW Modern Gray (bad purple undertone), then HGTV Sherwin Wiliams Crisp Blue (too baby blue), and now they are Sherwin Williams Site White. The bathroom cabinets are HGTV Sherwin Williams Blue Midnight. Counters are white quartz with some light gray veining.
The bathroom is west-facing, with one window. I have had three consultations with Sherwin Williams consultants. My house is in Florida, so I want to still make it feel coastal, but I am just about ready to throw my hands up, and do something like Aesthetic White just to calm down the tile at night. Any ideas on wall colors that I am not thinking of? The rest of the house walls are Krypton.
Attached are pictures of the bathroom during the day, and at night to show how natural versus artificial light is affecting the tiles.

To me, the color of the tiles in the shower and above the tub look Ivory. They look yellow because they are a creamy/ivory/off white. What color did you cover up?

The color was an off white/beige builder grade tile.  Unfortunately, I do not have ready access to those images, but attached is the same original tile in my guest bath.

I am hoping someone with knowledge on color comes along to help you. .I think by trying to go gray, you are accentuating the yellowness. Maybe someone can suggest a different color for your walls.

Nancy is right, you are trying to use cool tones, which are only emphasizing the warm tone of the tile.

The choice of your vanity and countertop are really nice in and of themselves. However, the tile refinishing color was a poor choice. Can that be redone to a more pure white? The problem you now have is too many colors in your color palette. Flooring looks beige/yellow too? Might try introducing a woven wood shade at the window. This is a trick to move the eye away from the undesired items. Add a bronze metal pot with some seagrass to the corner tub shower area. Add navy blue towels over edge of tub. Add navy and ivory runner or rug to the floor. Textures of woods, rattans and rug might distract enough to help get a more cohesive look. I will try a mock for you. Bbl

Take a look at what happens when you add navy blue rug, towels, woven wood type window shade, bronze vase with tall (coastal) grasses and remove mirror and replace with tall picture of coastal bird with blues. Did you even notice the tile when you viewed the mock ups? Trick the eye.

I might even find some grass for the vase that is similar to tile. That ties it in so it further becomes ok. Notice in the picture selected, it had some cream too. Bring everything together. Hope this helps.

Budget friendly too. Lowes has woven shades very reasonably priced. Check for crane art at Hobby Lobby for good deals. They have grasses too. Lowes has inexpensive rugs. Measure the space and get large one that covers flooring nicely. Enjoy!

One more thing. Is that a kitty litter box by the tub. Ok, now we can do better than that.

Thank you, Flo Mangan, for the ideas, and Rachel Lee for the feedback.  I definitely like the litter box ideas. My boy cat, Jack, is notorious for kicking out his litter from the litter boxes, so that is a great idea. Yesterday was laundry day, so some extra towels that are aqua and teal colored are not shown, but would be on the towel racks. I am going to reach out to the tile refinishing company and see how much it is to refinishing. Otherwise, I am going to get some paint chips to narrow down choices for an off-white, cream, or taupe wall color.

I hope you can resurface tile because wall color is never going to solve that problem. I am a Certified Color Specialist and the paint color might help but I doubt it. A cream will emphasize the yellow ness, an offwhite will have some Hue Family and without help to get the right one not a good idea. And a taupe will make tile go pink. Cool offwhites would be best with your vanity elements. SW Pure White or Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace. But those work with your blue vanity but not with Yellow tile. So see what I mean. If you can redo tile, make sure you go with a cool white.

If you decide to paint try getting samples from samplize.com. These are 12” x 12” squares you can stick up on your walls and view at different times of day. Saves money in long run but narrow choices first. I have been thinking that a warm light gray might pull everything together. Have you tried any. Benjamin Moore’s Classic Gray might be worth checking out. This chart has a ton of great info but one factor I can point out is the “Hue family”. Around the outer edge of this color wheel are notations showing color hues. So Classic Gray sits in the yellow/red hue family. This means it will show warmth. It has an LRV (light reflectance value) of around 72. The scale is 0=no reflection (think dark) and 100=most brilliant reflecting of light (think brightness). So this color is more light than dark but not super light. I found a picture of a bathroom with dark blue vanity and light gray walls. Just to help you visualize. I can help further with paint color once you get decision on tile refinishing. You can search here on Houzz for pictures of bathrooms with dark blue vanities and white and gray veined countertops to see ideas for wall colors always have to be tested in your specific light conditions day and night. Sorry, this got long, but you have painted so many times, I am trying to help you do some testing before you spend any more money on paint and time painting.

Thank you for the additional assistance! I spoke to another vendor who does refinishing after the one that did the work has not called me back. I sent the new vendor pictures this afternoon of the tile, and she sent it to her account rep to get a quote about stripping and redoing the finishing. She cautioned it could be expensive, but we'll see. I definitely used Samplize before. I bought about 20 samples last year after I thought I was going to repaint the cabinets and leave the modern gray on the walls. Hence,  how I thought I could use aesthetic white on the walls now, since it has both beige and gray in it. I will keep you apprised.

Flo Mangan: Here is the result of the refinishing of the shower and bath surround tile. Looks like a totally different space. So much better. Jury is still out on whether I need a wall color with a lower LRV. Going to give it some time to acclimate to it. Now I am shopping for floor mats. Thanks for giving me the push to change the tile color.
