Wall Paint for Kitchen with Calacatta Laza

last modified: 3 years ago

Hi, I am new to this forum and hoping for some assistance with paint selections. I recently installed MSI Calacatta Laza quartz countertops in my kitchen. The cabinets are white, and the floors are a dark hardwood. The kitchen, breakfast area and family room are an open concept design so I will be painting all three the same color. The kitchen faces south and the family room faces north. Both receive very little natural light.

Does anyone have suggestions for paint that matches laza but will not be too dark for rooms that do not receive a ton of natural light? I tried SW gracious griege and BM collingwood, but they both are too dark. I honestly believe the gracious griege was not mixed correctly bcs both colors look almost identical despite the difference in LRV. Agreeable gray seems it will be too dark, but perhaps I should give it a shot. I am open to a taupe as I believe gray is losing popularity. BTW, I searched older threads but am hoping for some "current" ideas. Thanks.

What is the white on your cabinets?

@wicketdog123 Hmm, that's a good question. They were already installed when we purchased so I really am not sure. They are not a stark white, but they are not an off-white either.

I have BM classic gray. It’s more of a warm vanilla white rather than a gray. I have it all over my house. My bar countertops are Laza but I have espresso cabinets. In my kitchen area I do have white cabinets and the classic gray also works there. I tried MANY colors before I decided on this one.

@K R First of all, your space is beautiful. I actually have BM classic gray on my list of possibilities, but we have not tried it on the wall. I want it light enough since there is little natural light, but I want noticeable color too. It just may work. Thanks for your feedback and for sharing your pics.

I have laza countertops with pure white cabibets. We painted our house silver drop from beher. The first pic you can see it on the back wall. The second Pic is my laundry room before the back splash was installed. The paint is siver drop its a light gray/greige sometimes might even look white.

@Becky H Hi Becky. Your space is beautiful. We also have a Laza countertop and I was curious what backsplash you used. Looks like Bedrosian Chloe.

What about trying a color other than some version of white or gray!? If you don't get great light, gray can look a little drab. Besides, it's paint, have some fun.

    Good luck!

@Debbi Washburn Hi Debbi, I really wanted a shade of blue, but I did not take the risk. We went with BM Edgecomb Gray. Surprisingly, it's a little light for our space, but it doesn't look bad. We may try BM Revere Pewter a little later. Who knows, I may go bold and try the blue, or I may just try a BS that includes blue. I have seen a blue tile BS with the laza, and it was beautiful. Thanks for your feedback.
