How about looking at two smaller, matching end-to-end tables? It's often done and adds a bit of interest.

Rules are meant to be broken lol. I have a 90” couch and 38” round table and it works well given where my occasional chairs are placed. Maybe lay a sheet down copying the length and width of the table and have all seating in place, so you get a better sense.

Instead of only worrying about the size, be sure which shape would work best. If you do decide on rectangle, a couple of inches either way is nothing. The style of table and how the whole seating area functions is more important.

Thank you all for your comments. I ended up going a little bit bigger with a 60" rectangular table (the couch is actually 84"). Here is a current pic of the room. I posted a pic of the table and rug I decided to go with. I haven't purchased them yet. The rug will be an 8'x10". The current one is a 5'x7". I moved from a 750 sq. ft. appt to a much larger house, so my furniture is on the small side.
