Transition to Spring: Shopping Edition

I haven't been much in the mood to buy clothes-- but i am very eager for spring and I do need some casual transition shoes for spring.. I am looking for styles that are not quite sandals but not sneakers or loafers.

I wasn't much in the mood to shop for shoes either-- but these came through in an email from fitflop and I liked them enough to click through! I have loved fitflop for years and so far, they are the only shoes with some height to them that i can wear safely and confidently with my depth perception/vertigo issues. I can't explain why they work and other brands don't-- but i am just glad to have something with a touch of height.

I ordered this color. I have a lot in this color range-- and while they may be a touch frumpy, i like the style.

Are you preparing your closet for spring? What have you looking to buy for spring?

I got the cutest faux suede jacket in pink! I love it! I have worn it acouple of times: on Valentine’s Day (trip…to the grocery store, LOL) with a white blouse that has little black hearts, and another with plain white.

Got a pair of green washed out denim pants at Target, but they are not even hemmed….but not fringy, just cut…not sure I like it.

No shopping for me. I did a lot pre-pandemic and have barely worn the stuff. Just can’t justify buying more.

I need to try on my linen pants I haven't worn in two years but are still in style. Then I need to steam them. :P Yesterday I received a small order from Poetry, a UK company I've mentioed here before. Two 3/4 length sleeve shirts (on the thin side, so cool, but not see through) and a linen dress. I did not have a nice looking dress, but geez the fabric is thin aka see through in the light. I need to order a half slip. Also received a few shirts from Coolibar and UnderArmor for walking or wearing around the house.

Anyone know of a website to order a nice linen or all cotton half slip without lace?

ETA Photos, since others are adding.

Bought this in two colors. Looks better on and isn't oversized or baggy. They need to show on a model.

Posting this that I bought earlier ths year and raelly like. I wear it as a shirt/buttoned. Also has a slightly longer back.

    Dress, needs half slip.

Purchased last year and have two colors.

Anyone know anything about Toast? Keeps popping up in my FB feed and the clothes look cute, a bit pricey.

I want one of these beach coverups, too.

I’m really trying to pare down my wardrobe to only things I really love and/or actually wear. It’s a little hard to judge after 2 years of mostly being home.

I just returned from 5 days in sunny FL and got a few compliments on one of my ”uniform” casual dresses (I have 4 of them in different colors). It’s a great dress for pear shaped bodies! It’s not this short on me. I’m 5’2” and it comes just to the top of my knee. I think they have a longer version, or at least they used to.

I did some thrifting in NYC today and got these vintage NOS Joan Helpern shoes, new Prabal Gurung tshirt, 90’s Kors skirt, NWT Tory Burch bag and ”no-tag” Liberty of London dress. Some spring, some not.

ps - after one million edits, I think I got this right.

    What wonderful finds, 1928!

(sorry will respond more in the morning-- just finished watching Chinatown and it's late for me!)

Sue, stay away from those obscure clothing stores you see on FB. Oh they are really nice clothes. Once they arrive you'll rush to try them on and find out your hand can't even get inside the sleeve. LOL

I'm like 2katz, no need to buy anything since I've hardly worn the things I bought new pre-covid. A few weeks ago I took all the winter/spring clothes from the closet and washed them when I realized most haven't been worn in ages.

I would like to find some tee shirts which I live in all summer.

I am very much loving wide leg, high waisted crops these days. They seem fresh and modern and are so comfortable!

Allison I love that blue dress. Would you say it runs big? The reviews say so. I would normally wear a 4 but based on reviews would order a two, if it ever goes on sale blah blah...right now it's fantasy clothing!

@Bumblebeez SC Zone 7 I always order an 8 on the website and ordered an 8 dress. It is not oversized on me. I'm 5'7" and average size (not skinny but not overweight). They have sales, but usually things I want are not available, so if you really want the dress I would not wait.

ETA: I took the website's advice and measured one of my shirts across the chest before I ordered.

All that Facebook clothing from obscure companies we've never heard of is always so pretty.

I’ve been getting Zulily emails and am considering this blouse:

    I like this blazer, too:

I’m drawn to romantic, flowy blouses lately. All from https://www.zulily.com/e/spring-awakening-s-4x-537800.html#pid_101633986:

Made me think of … “But I don’t want to be a pirate!”

Sidenote: I’m tired of photos showing blouses half-tucked in front. Some don’t show it untucked, so I can’t see the actual length, or hem. Who goes around looking like you accidentally tucked part of your blouse in after a bathroom visit? (Which happened to me in first grade, but worse — my dress.)

Springroz, Pink is such a great color for spring! Ive been pulling mine out the last few weeks.

Allison, I remember you sharing your experience with that company in years past. I love the dress-- but what a bummer that it requires a slip! I also like the style of the first top-- they are so easy to wear!

SueB - I have a rockpaperflower coverup too. I also have some of their kimonos. I think I may pick up some brighter ones for my (tentative) trip to Aruba. I am pretty sure we've seen photos of you in those Toad & Co dresses. They are adorable and look great on you!

Oakley - not all FB ads are the chinese clothing manufacturers. I suspect it is based on your activity. I get ads for EF, Tory Burch, Sundance and Athleta.. all places i do shop. I don't know Toast but they are a UK company-- doesn't smell like the cheapie companies. Have you tried Athleta tees? I like Vnecks and bought a few of the Breezy Scoop V tees earlier this winter. I think the colors I ordered (all on sale) are out of stock now but i like the slub cotton and style of the v. Note the colors are more vibrant irl.

Bumble - lucky you! The high-waisted wide leg crops are all over this season. I like this style too but only when they hit me at ankle length. I have short legs so anything higher cuts me off-- as I remember, you are very tall so i am sure they look great on you!

1929Spanish - What fun thrifting in NYC.. and I am not surprised you were able to uncover such great finds. It's your special talent!

Jinx, I like alot of those tops. I am curvy and short and the tops that allison and sue shared would be too boxy looking on me, even if they are not loose. I need either the waist tapered in or a more "flowy/flared" shape. Peasant tops usually will work for me, depending on how they are cut. Being short-waisted is part of the problem too, I think. I do not like the tucked part of shirt either!

I ordered a black/white print top this morning, along with a dusty rose tank that I need for a print cardigan. I will probably not be able to wear long sleeves much past March though (maybe early April) as we warm up quickly here. I did find a couple of elbow length sleeve cardigans last year that I really like with a tank underneath. I also like the wide leg crop, but like Funky, closer to ankle length looks best on me. I have a pair of animal print that I need to have hemmed - they were a great sale, so won't be too bad to have altered. I probably have more than enough to wear, although I want to pick up some shorts and tees. We will be in Charleston area (beach) early May, so need to get a couple of nice shorts before then.

Ahh yes, the "French Tuck." My DS used to do it all the time and now it's an actual thing. Next, they will tell me "renumeration" is a word.

Allison, those ads stopped on my FB for some reason, and I don't know why I got them in the first place. I shop at Nordstrom about once a year. I get Sundance and Athleta. It's just that I and many others have been scammed by those sites that have THE nicest clothes. Clothes that can't be found in nice stores.

I like the heavier weight round neck tees. Something to look nice in while scrubbing the floor then having to run to town for an errand. with my white tennis shoes on. :) Many times I find better quality tees in the men's department.

I LOVE the half tuck, shows the waist and covers my skinny but flat butt.

I’m not quite ready to buy anything spring/summer yet. I took a look in my closet the other day and I have a few things I barely wore last year. Need to evaluate what I really need first.

@Judi I usually buy a medium or an 8 top, so I have found their sizing to be true. The only things I have returned were one dressy shirt and jeans.

@Oakley I didn't mention FB ads or Athleta, but agree with Bumble. Same with IG, the comments (if any) are usually bad.

I have a bit of spring wardrobe fever. So far more of a refresh - new white jeans, black tee, neutral kitten heel sandals. Nothing too exciting. I have also caved to the vinyl shoe trend (late to the party) with these:

We'll see if I feel ridiculous in them when they arrive...

ETA: @Allison0704 (or anyone!) I would like to add easy linen pants to my wardrobe, too. Please share if you have some you love. The Poetry site has a variety of styles - I am petite so have to be careful of anything too flowy. Seems they have some slimmer options.

Outside, i think that is part of my disinterest in shopping-- though most of what i bought last year was very much casualwear. Pieces to wear at home, farmers market, sister's pool.

I think the other thing that is causing some disinterest in shopping is the uncertainty for what's to come in the next few months. I have tentative travel plans but I am cautious about getting too excited about them-- I am very hopeful that the pandemic is releasing its grip, but i am still cautious. I don't want to be disappointed again.

Ruby, love the shoes. I hope they work out for you!

Jinx, love the flowy tops too. What has been your experience with Zulily? I have bought two things-- one name brand, one not. The name brand item (a swimsuit) was great. The non-name brand item (slide sandals) was a huge disappointment (but not much $$). Also, I find browsing on their site to be a PIA. I don't enjoy the hunt deals like i used to.

Funky, I’ve had mostly good experiences with them … blouses, jackets, pants/slacks, and shoes. But I agree with you — they’ve rapidly grown and have too many ”stores” to look through. It’s become overwhelming. When they first started, it felt more unique and exclusive, but now it’s more like the A site.

ETA: My only disappointment regarding an order was a plaid (hooded) coat I recently bought. It’s super cute, but so thin! They advertised it like it would be much heavier. I got one for my DD, too. It’s more like a lightweight jacket.
