To prune or not to prune?

California rose experts:
I totally missed the window to prune before we had record highs. Everything is exploding.
Is it better to prune now and cut off 4 inches of growth, or to let them all Bloom and then hard prune after first flush??

I would let them bloom and trim after the first flush.

Mind if I brump this thread ?

Not in the realm of 4 inches of growth but is there any difference in 1st flush if you happen to see the bud swell with a sprout and prune then vs. a dormant prune in the middle/late winter ?

FWIW, I got a bulk of my spring pruning done about 2 weeks ago - had some free time so I got the pruners out, cleaned up some leaf litter, put some compost down. Got my spring chores outta the way so I could enjoy ther warm weather when it comes

So SOME roses are too vigorous to not prune, such as my tree Firefighter, now 9 feet tall and still going! Towering above Raspberry Cream Twirl.
