Yes, it is going to be moveable. It is large enough for a nailed down island, but here we have to hard wire electricity to it, and we just decided it's not worth it to do that. We also like the idea of it looking a big more like a piece of furniture, and we can move it around when we have family over, etc. Mainly it will be prep space but I am wanting to have some cabinets and drawers - it would be approximately 37" wide by 24" to 36" deep - haven't decided on that part yet.

Without actually seeing a photo, and assuming you have a minimum of an 8 foot ceiling height above your island to hang your pendants, you SHOULD have enough room to hang the 1 foot wide pendants you like above the 4'8" length island. Just ensure there is at least 1 foot between the lights going sideways, and if one of the lights is hung over the prep area, ensure both lights are hung high enough over the island so they don't hit anyone's head. I think the scale is wrong for your island. You need smaller pendants - check out the Mini Pendant Lights from Destination Lighting - there are lots of them and the scale is much better. Two would look better spaced 18" - 24" apart rather than just one centered.

And thank you, Jan, for the reminder that black is a potent visual amidst the Scandi. I'll keep that in mind! I actually already have the dining chairs as well. They are the same ones in the photo---black legs with charcoal gray upholstery. Pretty square-ish silhouette but subtle tufting on the front. Assuming that I'm not committed to buying anything just yet, are there any general opinions here on which style of stools would look best in this open space? For example, something metal and minimalist to contrast with the bulkier, upholstered items of the dining + living spaces? Or, for another example, something farmhouse rustic versus something very mid-century modern (a la Patricia's suggestion)?
