I would get a new light that is LED 3500 K and in a style that actually lights the table. I would paint the walls the cream from the rug and then do pale blue silk drapes I love the rug it is IMO the best thing in the space and honestly if you don't use the DR why not do 4 chairs and a coffee table and some nice bookshelves and use as a nice spot for a glass of wine before dinner and a library all the rest of the time or jusrt anice spot to relax in the afternoon.

Patricia, thank you for your advice. My plan is to convert the area to a sitting room. I am having club chairs reupholstered now for it. I have a gorgeous stickley round accent table to go under chandelier. If you have one in mind, I would love to see it. House is 1920’s Colonial Revival. I thought white barrel shades would help update it. ( I really don’t want to nag my husband to install a new one).

Fabrics for chairs. Beige piping on both. Even dog bed is getting the treatment.

Please show a photo of the new upholstery fabric for your chairs. Curtains should coordinate with the chairs and whatever rug you choose.

If your curtains are lined, you can flip one pair around on the rings to see what the white/cream of the lining fabric looks like with your woodwork.

The fabric is above. The herringbone and the coral on top left. It will hall have a tan beige piping.

Great room. Do you close the curtains? The shape of the door is wonderful. The drapes on each side distract from that.

If you need drapes, then I would use a fabric that has more fluid drape and less stiffness and mount the rod at the ceiling. Silk is beautiful but make sure it has a lot of drape but I think silk is too formal with the fabrics you've selected. Linen might work but it's really to do with how the fabric hangs rather than what it's made of.
