I would suggest a rug to anchor the the furnishings in your living area.

Yes- a slippery slope! Can you trust me to select a rug - I need help. What color (s) ? Texture? Size - dimensions?

You want a rug with these colors in it: tan (armchairs), black (sofa), maple red (from stools). Then you can get pillows in an accent color from whatever rug you pick. In a search box for a rug put in "tan, black, brown." You can order a very small rug, and if it works, send it back and order a much larger size. Make sure it's big enough that front legs of sofa and chair rest on the rug.

A wood coffee table (wood color from your stools) is what you need. Or glass and wood as others showed--not chrome because it doesn't connect to the very nice stools. Kitchen and living area need to connect since they're open to each other.

Every new piece you bring into a room needs to relate to what you already have either in the finish or color. I still think you need to change the layout so the sofa back creates a walkway, TV wall across from it with two chairs on either side of TV console.

If wanted, you could somewhat bypass/ ignore the good, earthy combination with the chairs...and use brights.

Reds are good with putty/tan chair color too - do you have a color from wardrobe or house that you've experimented with.. art, etc.?

In the suggested layout, the TV and console would be moved to the wall where the sofa is now, and the sofa would be across from the TV. (The OP asked what would be on the sofa wall if she moved the sofa.) Sofas need not be against a wall, and in an open floor plan a sofa can be “floated” to define a seating area and create a walkway.

@Carolae: Apparently she tried that layout but it didn't work. This is what happens when DD person doesn't provide measurements from the get-go. People asked multiple times. But she's only focused on coffee table.

Moved sofa under window. Tight squeeze but made it. Where do i put the chairs for good conversation and also able to watch tv? The only “ living room” space. 13”11” x 17’10 in the apartment. I now still need to improve layout in restricted space. Sofa under window. Where to place the tv ( where sofa was?) and where to place the 2 big chairs … . Small room yet still big questions

Without seeing the whole room it's hard to know what pieces will fit where. Can you try my first suggestion layout but on the opposite wall? Couch near hallway facing the wall and the TV stand moved to wall facing barstools and you can keep you two chairs for conversational sitting near window area and move the entry cabinet against window. Or you can always try and position TV and couch sideways in the corner or directly behind the barstools. The space is small for the furnishings you have. Might be best to sell off the pieces and buy a small sectional and mount the TV. Good luck, post pics when finished!

If you have children, an ottoman style coffee table is the best choice, and definitely no glass. I don’t know if you have children, so these are just a couple of other coffee table suggestions that could give you a light airy feel also.

This is another rug I used, and I put an ottoman style coffee table in this visual (as I mentioned above, you can move the rug around with your finger). What I was trying to determine, is whether you would have room for another chair - a smaller scaled chair, maybe one that swivels - placed to the right side of general area where the tv is - a bit forward, if possible, so it is in conversation area, with one of your current chairs moved forward toward the sofa.

And here is another coffee table. This one has a gold base; but you could paint the base in a silver/metallic, if you wanted to. I personally like the bit of warmth that the gold brings to your space, and gold is ’in’ these days. Thanks. There is a big range of prices for chrome nesting tables. Is this where I should save my money or splurge because quality of glass or rust resistance? I would like to keep my furniture for as long as possible.

If you have children, (again) I would not recommend glass - under any circumstances. There is no ”fashion” that is worth a child’s life.

Other than that, tempered glass is the most important thing to look for. Price is not always an indication of quality. There are many coffee tables in the price range you have shown (and higher) that are not made with tempered glass. Also, unfortunately, there are no guarantees that the alleged “tempered glass” has been made to proper standards. In addition, tempered glass can -and does at times - break and shatter, too. It just breaks and shatters differently. But if there are no children involved, it is fine. Still has risks - but adults are entitled to like what they like and glass tables can be nice.

As far as the rest - it’s up to you how much you want to spend on a coffee table. That is a personal consideration. You mentioned that you were budget conscious at this time, so I was thinking in terms of finding some nice looks for you at a value price. But if you want to spend 1,000 dollars on a coffee table, that’s fine. Again, the most important consideration with any glass table is that it is made with tempered glass.

No little kids - I am a senior on a pension. Tempered glass is my primary focus. Then am with you “ nice looks at a value price” . Good mantra for the entire apartment as I advance on the project. A rug next —will review comments. This has been such a learning curve- very grateful
