I absolutely love working under the warm glow of a pendant light. You could hang a corded pendant on a hook above your desk. Could you get a second floor lamp as well, same as what you have, to put in another corner? I like your idea about a white bookshelf. I think once you have a few more light sources, a mirror, some art, and real or faux plants/tree if you like greenery, your office will feel a lot cozier. Some people even work with a daylight lamp on the side of their desk.

Thanks for the suggestions! I think putting a light on a hook to the right side of where I would sit would definitely work. Going to take some time to find a light and hook that look nice.

I worked in a large office space where they built their own “cubicles” from reclaimed beetlekill pine and black iron pipes and they had a pendant light over each workstation. I loved it so much I often bring my laptop at home to the kitchen island and sit and work under a pendant there.

Personally, I couldn’t work with grey walls around me. They seem to suck light and life out of the space. I need a happier, more creative color to stimulate my creativity in my office.

Since the office space is so dark it might be nice to add a little color. You could try adding some nice artwork to the walls, a colorful rug, and some more lighting. Please take a look at our office designs we have done which might aid you more.
