It’s fine as it is; I would not plant anything that needs to be tended by a renter. I would also not put a daybed out there for a rental. Is it being rented furnished? Is it a short term rental where appearance is important?

I’d replace missing pickets and are you allowed to paint? Landlord may be thrilled and even pay for pickets and paint. A mural would be fun and they aren’t hard to do.

Based on your budget, other ideas.

Is that a tarp hanging behind the 'day bed'? I would remove that as it looks tired. I also would look for a couple of hard framed chaise lounge chairs and swap it out for the day bed. Something about that mattress outside is giving me the creepy crawlies.

Get some heavy duty hooks (amazon) and attach to fence. Add fabric...specifically a shower curtain because it already has the "eyes" for the hooks, many are waterproof and are easy to put in the washer at the end of the season.

I’d use bamboo fencing/screening.

I agree . . . bamboo fencing is the way to go.

Another option is hanging an outdoor rug. They won’t fade as quickly and it looks like a 8x10 one could fit there fine. Try TJ max or home goods. The shower curtain idea will be less $ but I’d be afraid it would fade quickly in the sun (but that may not be an issue in the location).

There are also decorative metal screen panels that you can buy. Probably more expensive than bamboo fencing but try Googling this.
