How to Reconcile Major Kitchen Elements That Don't Match

EDIT: I'm going with seamless, matching the backsplash to the counters but will leave this up in case it helps anyone else. In a new build, the only white cabinets are extremely bright and the only white paints offered are Sherwin Williams Pure White or Extra White, neither of which match the cabinets. I'm going with a greywashed vinyl plank floor that will have both subtle warm and cool tones. I found a beautiful white subtle gray veined honed countertop that goes pretty well with the cabinets. My worry is the cabinets seem ligther than the paint colors and I'm not sure if I want a stark white subway tile backsplash. I found a gorgeous cotton matte subway that looks great with Sherwin W Pure White but they are both warmer than the cabinets. I could do run the honed counterop up the backsplash but don't want a super slick look. I love subway tile. My favorite ktichens have all the major elements matching perfectly so I am kind of lost and want to avoid mixing warm and cool on the large items. (No problem mixing warm and cool with accessories.) Am I overthinking all of this.......... welcome. Thank Thanks for your feedback.

First IMO never hone a counter material and for sure not if it is quartz. Why white walls at all there are millions of colors get one of those or if the builder does not have any then paint it whatever you can live with until you move in Backsplash is chosen after all other elements in the space are in and that goes for wall colortoo.

Patricia...... I loved honed counters, Why do you dislike them....... I have loads of picture where the cabinets and walls are all the same white and they look gorgeous, seamless, and with wood or other elements not sterile at all. Maybe I'll upload some photos. At some point, mabye I'll do some accent walls, for now I just want it super airy and breezy. I have to choose the backsplash before I move in due to fire codes. I asked if I could just do it after and was told no. They could put some generic tile up but I'd have to rip it out and I'd rather skip that. So I'm just deciding if I want to run the counter up the backsplash or put in subway tile but it's really hard to make these deicsions wtihout seeing it all first or at least on a computer rendering. Thanks for your comment.

You are telling us your house is a production build and there is only one white cabinet offered , and two S W white paints offered?

What options have you for flooring? I suggest you first choose flooring which will run through out the house. Next decide on what other S W paint colors come with your build.

There is no reason you can't paint the trim a color, as long as you stick with it.

    How about gray for trim?

Judianna20 hi, thanks. Yes exactly, there's only one nice white cabinet being offered and two white SW paints. Yes, I'm running the same floor throughout the main living spaces. I think I've got this part figured out, now I'm just stuck a bit on the backsplash! To keep it seamless, I might run the counters up the backsplash, I just want to avoid it being too cold.. I was going to use subway tile but they only have light grey grout for white subway and I don't think I want so much contrast. There are some cool kitchens though with the the same counters and backsplash that still look warm so I'm leaning that way even though it's more expensive. Wish they had computer rendering software but at least there's photos on Houzz! Thanks for your help.

Honed finishes are just fine. That is only one pro's opinion. Many prefer a honed or leathered finish; it is the customer's preference, not the designer's preference that matters.

Thank you so much Maddie260! I totally love honed, To me, it's just more casual and makes me want to cook. Polished is beautiful of course, just more formal. I haven't seen leather finish counters, that sounds awesome. I just found some leather finish porcelain bathroom tiles though! They look really cool. Thanks again, I was second guessing myself like there was some major flaw with honed, esp. honed quartz. Thanks again. :)

A certain 'pro' seems to receive immense pleasure from dissing everyone's choices - in every single thread. Like Maddie says, your preference is what counts, not hers, despite her thinking hers matters.
