On the left, we had family friends who traveled the world during WWII...he was an aircraft engines specialist for P&W. This was a cow bell they brought back with them from Tibet.

On the right, a to scale carving of an akua from Hawaii.

The beams however would've fit yesterday's category as they are hand hewn from 1790s, most likely of trees from our property.

    Two very meaningful from Jamaica:

DH and his late wife (we were both widowed) bought this textile art in Ocho Rios, but never had it framed. I found a shadow box for it; it’s in our guest room. I’ve seen pictures of that trip and think of her vibrant smile:

In 2014, DH and I eloped to Negril … we brought back this carved statue (it’s in our bathroom):

A little humor, this is far far away from what was supposed to roll of the manufacturing line!

    Bought at Big

Lots many years ago and it's in the closet along with some Billy Beer.

A piece I snatched up at a local antique shop a few years ago. Likely mid-20th-century, likely from Bali.

Years ago, when my eldest was still little and my youngest not yet born, I was in Sydney on business when I saw this in a shop window as I was walking back to my hotel from a dinner. I ran in between meetings the next day to buy him and have him shipped home. Sometime after I left the shop, someone tied a handwritten manila tag on his leg. It didn't say "sold" or "Mtnrdredux" or anything you might expect. It said "this horse is going to New York" ... as if he were going on a trip! I loved the tag and kept it on him, until one day a helpful cleaning person snipped it off and threw it out. 😞 The whole family loves him. My SS has twins now, and we look forward to them using it when they visit!

Our family room rug is from somewhere in the Middle East, although I can’t recall exactly where at the moment. Sasha and Knight enjoy it, too

This is the face of an 8ft tall case clock from England that came here with DH's ancestors. Australia is shown as New Holland. Also a little error was made in the hand painting of the minutes.

I have this Murano bottle that I got in Italy a number of years ago.

And I have this Imari plate that my 88 year old neighbor's uncle brought back from Japan during World War I. She gave it to me and I treasure it.
