the glass is not in yet and we chose a beveled style glass and crown molding. i also can add up to 9 inches of decor

@anj_p My dilema is since the door loses its style according to home depot im unsure if i should continue with the installation

i really wanted the stacked glass cabinets with crown molding

@anj_p they can fit up to 9 inches of decor

Is this the look your going for?

They will look better once the gap is gone when installed. I think they will be nice when you add in the crown.

I think the beveled glass might be overkill. If you haven't paid for it yet, I think you might as well save the cost and get unbeveled. :)

@typeandrun they are about 12 inches they still have the black brackets underneath so they are not aligned yet

@njmomma yes i am, although the lowers are 42 inch and the upper are 12 and then crown molding

@Fori im thinking the same once its all installed and crown molding in, NOT beveled sorry, not sure why i said beveled

When they stack cabinets, depending on the ceiling height they often use a 30" or 36" cabinet as the base.

You didn't ask this, but it jumped out at me so I'll offer it for what it's worth. The lower cabinets are very tall, the glass top ones small relative to the lowers. I think those really long (tall) cabinet handles make the lower cabs look even taller. I think the top ones will look okay once the crown molding is added but having a shorter handle might de-emphasize the height of the lowers. Take off a few and see if the proportions relative to each other look different.

@BeverlyFLADeziner yes our mistake was if we had stacked them from the beginning w the builder they would have lowered the lower cabinets to fit in the stacked cabinets 😰 @tozmo1 you say i should change the handles for the lower ones ?

If the handles have already been put on, then you won't be able to change them for shorter handles. Holes would need to be patched and who wants to do that on new cabinets.

It's not going to be the traditional stacked look. But you have a more contemporary kitchen, so you can be a little different. It's really hard to guess how it'll look overall though.

Are you considering skipping the top cabinets altogether? Or something else?

@njmomma def ill have to deal with it

@Fori its either go through w installation or cancel i just hate that big gap i dont think i want wide up to ceiling crown molding

we are going to extend the backsplash as well

I think the glass just draws attention to how squatty they look. I would not do glass up there and I think it will blend in better.

If you are not doing lighting I wouldn't do glass period.

Hmmmmm Is the cabinet still resting up there for you to get a photo from the over-the-sink angle or was it taken down already?

I kind of think you should go for it and install them! Easy for me to say though. :)

Very pretty kitchen. I think it looks better with the top open rather than adding stacked cabinets. Has a bit more clean and modern style. I think one of the shames about the current "no soffits" dictum is you then have to stack cabinets almost to the ceiling . I think you could make a "non-soffit" soffit using trim. So a foot tall board mounted above and flush with existing cabs, with a narrow banding at the base, and whatever kind of trim you like up top.

I love glass door cabinets but not in this particular application, unfortunately. Hope this helps. Your kitchen is beautiful!

@Fori thats a good idea for a better angle, but it was taken down yesterday 😅

i kind of think so too 🤭

if i go through with it ill post the finish product

Your kitchen is very nice, I would just add crown molding to the top of your cabinets and leave the rest open.

Yes, I was suggesting changing the handles for shorter ones. You don't have to redrill the holes, you just have to get handles that don't extend beyond the the center to center measurement. See the two below. They have the same center to center measurement (distance between holes) but they are different lengths. The overall length of the one on the left which is like your handle, is almost three inches longer than the one on the right, even though they use the same drill holes.

I see your handles at that length were quite pricey so probably not something you want to tackle, but it's a thought. By removing them completely as a test, you could at least see if the visual proportions change.

@tozmo1 that is a great idea and i understand what you mean about the dril holes. they were costly but ill consider to see if it visually changes proportions

Well I have read from the kitchen pros here that it is best for stacked cabinets to be closer to a 2/3 - 1/3 proportion. However, with your cabinets installed already, I wouldn’t worry about the glass ones looking too squatty. I think it will look fine with the crown molding.

Here is a mockup to sort of show you how they might look.

I am not suggesting using the same decor in each one haha! And I agree, don’t bother with the fancy beveled glass. Regular glass will look just as nice.

    Here I shortened the handles.

I do like the mockup of the shorter pulls, but fixing the drill holes would be a lot of work and costly. I now see what Tozmo1 meant…to keep the same holes but do a style that is not as long. That would probably help, but I‘m not sure it would be enough of a noticable difference to justify the expense. Looks great so far!

@rebunky wow!!! im impressed. how were you able to do this ?

i actually see its not bad at all, and the glass is not beveled. it has an outer bevel

im torn about the handles, as they were not cheap. i paid more than $300 for these, so maybe it wont be too noticeable, im hoping

i appreciste what you did here with all the available pics

i have went ahead with the installation instead of canceling

i will post with finished project 😀

@rebunky we will raise the backsplash as well so it can look more proportioned

@Betty Medrano It's all just a process of fine tuning as the budget allows. Maybe each year a friend could give you a new handle on your birthday. Eventually you'd have them, LOL.

Looking forward to seeing the finished product.

@tozmo1 or maybe make my husband give me new ones for bday and xmas 😰🤭

What bothers me is that it appears the reveal between the cabinet doors is not the same between the lower and the added upper cabinet.

@vinmarks we ordered the same styke door as the below but the manufacture plus timberlake said i would lose part of the style (3 rectangular lines) bc of the glass insert

Kitchen update i love how it turned out, the crown moldings look great

    Beautiful!
