A evergreen might be better. Black pines are beautiful. Long needles. Japanese maples are beautiful but don’t offer shade usually. More ornamental. I would be careful putting tree that close to foundations and structures. Some photos would help.

Only evergreens don’t drop leaves, but there still will be sprills to sweep.

Take a trip to the Olbrich Gardens and see what strikes your fancy, but in your zone, with those space restrictions, I think anything that gives you shade will drop leaves in fall.

i didnt mean it cant drop leaves just prefer not in late November. . There ia a row of evergreens close by so don’t want more. just looking for a medium size tree whose branches don’t spread too wide.

I have had this tree and I used it for color and winter interest. It is slow growing and easy to care for once established. Might be perfect for your spot. Also could do a evergreen of sone type.

Thank you Flo Mangan for your suggestions. I have a large row of various evergreens just across from this area so don't want to go that route. The Chinese Pistache is beautiful but I don't think it will work where I live as this is what I read. "Unfortunately, planting a Chinese pistache tree also comes with some cons, including its susceptibility to root rot and verticillium wilt, its cold weather intolerance, and its rather awkward appearance before maturation."

What about an Eastern redbud easy to grow beautiful spring color when they bud beautiful heart shaped leaves that come down in fall, way before the late falling sycamore.

We never had a bit of trouble with the Chinese Pistache tree. But your choice of course. How about a Little Gem Magnolia?

Here’s idea. Grows fast. Doesn’t shed. Green year round. Keeps pyramid shape with little trimming. Orange red berries in winter.

I would most definitely go for a small deciduous tree--not sure of what would be hardy for you, but I'd look at redbud, Cornus florida or C. kousa, Viburnum prunifolium, Amelanchier sp. and cv. , Cotinus obovatus for starters.

Maybe Heptacodium miconiodes. I bought Temple of Bloom and it had flowers year 2 after planting.

Is there a good nursery within easy driving distance? That's probably your best bet for finding a replacement tree that will work well in your area.
