How deep should my shelves and drawers be in a small walk-in closet?

Hi, I want to add some shelves and drawers to my walk-in closet, and customize it. The depth of the wall where I want to add shelving is 24" deep. A company suggested 14* or 16" deep. How about doing 20" to take advantage of the space better, since that wall is 24" deep? It is the wall sitting at my right after opening the doors. I just feel that with 14" or 16" depth I would be losing a good chunk of space in depth... What do you think? Thank you in advance!

Hi. We have drawers both 20 and 15. Just make sure there is clearance to open the door. The fascinating thing is that the new closet is bigger than we’ve ever had… but with the built in drawers and shoes shelves… we actually used to fit more clothes into our old much much smaller closet with wire shelves.
