I'd change to a more modern coffee table in walnut. Add full length drapes in off white. Get a floor lamp. Plus move the sofas just a couple of inches away from the walls. It's a nice room, don't panic.

I also think if your could replace the coffee table with something bigger w/o a glass top, would help with lessening the rug situation. Its the same issue w/the slight endtables

I love the colors you have there. And there is nothing un-modern about the room, to the contrary.

If you have children in the space, the round coffee table is great, however the glass not so much. But don’t know that you have children, and if that’s any issue. In general, though, I like the idea of bringing in some black on a coffee table, to ground the space + add some drama - a bit more of an edge.

I second judianna20's paint suggestion. Leggy furniture should sit entirely on the rug for a grounded feeling. That will also enable you to pull the sofa arms to touch there at the corner. Your current tables need replacing and you only need a coffee table for the two sofas. Focus on floor lamps, a beefy coffee table and at least one nice armchair and an occasional table for it. Wait on drapes until the rest of it comes together. If you can center the rug in the room without it overlapping into traffic paths, do that and rearrange the sofas first.

Pick color from your rug and paint the walls to tie up all together and no curtains

I love the look of a tall lamp in this room. Am weighing layering a cream cowhide rug over the brown rug to lighten up the space. Had originally planned on artwork surrounding the narrower window, but I can see how drapes would also look really nice, potentially better.

Since you're all clearly very good at this - what do you think about the cream cowhide rug idea? If yes, would you still add drapes or no?

I would first invest in a warm wood very large coffee table and see if you still feel a need for another layer of rug. Make sure the coffee table is truly big enough and inviting. You can style it nicely with books and shapes.

I quite like your window treatments as is. You could ask the cat to sit more toward the corner and face the room for a more picturesque arrangment.

Install olive green or linen colored drapery panels on the windows.

- light colored arm chair with small side table

- floor lamp

No suggestions right now but I love what you have, I think you will be much happier with warmer, happier colors than cool tones. Your floors are a warm tone so it goes well with the floors. I do think a wood coffee table would look good as others have suggested.
