Beautiful flower, but not Red lion. Red Lion is a single and this is a double. You can google 'double red amaryliis/hippeastrum' and compare photos or just enjoy your beautiful and healthy plant. Also, hippeastrum can flower more then once a year as the bulb gets older/bigger and is cared for. Nice growing!

And so the implication is that such a bulb (large in size) doesn't need a dormancy to flower say, twice in a year?

(I am thinking that after this flowering it will then behave more like a "regular" hippeastrum i.e. the foliage will eventually die back and it will go into dormancy?)

In their natural environment most Hippeastrum are evergreen and do not lose their leaves. Almost all cultivars are evergreen. That being said, if you need to store them you can stop watering them, alowing them to shut down and they will lose their leaves and go into a forced full dormancy. As long as you keep them in a cool dry place, you can revive them in the spring. You can also decide not to force dormancy. In this case just reduce watering when the temps are cool to prevent rot and start watering again when you see active growth. As you have found, these are very accomodating bulbs :)

I live in a warm climate and grow mine outside year round. For me, some species go dormant but most keep their leaves all year and bloom in the spring. When mature (large healthy bulb), and especially when they fill out a large pot, they will occasionally bloom through out the year. I usually have something blooming year round.
