You match the anchor tension and shear strength to the weight of the drapes plus hardware and the number of attachment points. Most likely you will be using molly or toggle bolts instead of drywall anchors.

Why this type of rod? I would need a lot more info before advising .

I love the look of this rod and have always wanted to use them in my bedrooms. My ceilings are 9' with no crown moulding in the bedrooms.

Can you request they put extra wood blocking in the wall?

@emilyam819 My builder IS going to block the center over the living room window to support a center rod support. I haven't gotten the nerve to ask him to block all the windows. I like the idea of the molly bolts for sure

If you plan to draw and open the blinds regularly, ask for the extra blocking, and pay for the service.. Opening and and closing blinds will put stress on anchor bolts and slowly widen the sheetrock hole, until your rod is attached loosely and wobbles. Or just falls off the wall. If you are building, take the time and expense to do this correctly.

If you are building then you can get the wood around the windows done right to support drapes. You and future homeowners will appreciate.

We had a ton of blocking put in. Including for tvs, bathroom accessories, an 80 lb mirror I knew I was going to hang and a few other places. Our home is custom built and i dont know if it makes a difference, but it wasnt a problem. We just had to mark where we wanted the extra support. Of course I didnt forget the guy who went out of his way to make sure I had enough, We bought him a gift card. If you know where you are going to hang stuff, the blocking makes it a lot easier. Nobody likes towel racks that pull from the wall.
