what goes with chocolate brown sofa?

What would go well with this colour wise? Decided to keep this and update the rest but now feel stumped. Need an ottoman with soft top and at least two chairs.

    Possibly a grey comfy chair?

So we’ve settled on Benjamin Moore Bolher Hat as the accent wall colour. We are getting a grey love seat to go with the leather sofa and I’m unsure on carpet and ottoman. Have been looking for carpets but part of the hard thing is we are committed to doing this all second hand!

Burnt orange or dusty blue work well:)

Agree with Eco chic. Our sofa is a very dark brown with some purple undertones. Most lighter browns clash. We've rotated through a couple of second-hand side chairs. Greens, orange, and dusty aqua/teal have all worked well. Gray seems really tricky. If you find one that works, I'd love to see a picture!

Well that’s the challenge of course! I’m actually keeping my eye out for blue and oranges too. The paint colour is a grey blue and the rest of the walls in the room are a very light grey. I also found a rug I like that has blue in it so I might order the rug and then work from there. I also like the tv stand in photo below

If you find a second hand ottoman that’s the right size but the wrong color, it’s easy to make your own washable cover for it from heavy duty fabric. I did this for this dog bed and secured it underneath with wide elastic bands- two running lengthwise and two running widthwise.

    Really good point!

Anything. That is the beauty of that color - so you can tie in the color to something else on the room.

Would you do an ottoman or a table? I’m actually leaning more toward a table but my child will be livid. I just think there will be a carpet, a wall colour, a love seat and the sofa. Adding an ottoman means another colour most likely which seems hard to manage

I would do an ottoman because of the comfort of putting my feet up. You can use a large wooden tray on top when you don’t have your feet up.

A table will still be an ottoman. By which I mean, your kids are going to put their feet there. You might be happier with ffpalms's suggestion--an ottoman with a tray, so that when the tray is there, you know you have a surface with no foot cooties.

What material/colour would the ottoman be?

Chair would work if there's room.

For upholstery, I would go with leather or vinyl, easy to wipe clean. Maybe sage green, dusty teal, ivory, depends on what other colors you go with, especially your rug colors.

I think I might choose the color of the ottoman last. It might be just the thing that pulls together the wall colors, couches and rug. Maybe something that blends well with the rug so it takes up less visual space - much like in the photo er612 just posted.

Er612 we aren’t keeping any of that. The only thing we are keeping is the sofa.

Wall is done! Next up is trim. Rearranging some things and getting the carpet in. So excited. Blinds come this week too.

your answer is in the first photo lime and yellowed greens are a great pop of color against the brown sofa. I think brown walls would feel like you lived in a pan of brownies

@valinta did you read any of the comments? We’ve now painted the wall and ordered a carpet.

I was hoping you were going to go with something more like this for your room. Where the rug really makes the leather sofa look special.

Oh! Love that dark wall as a great frame for a screen. Giving me the confidence to do something similar behind the screen facing one of my dark brown sofas.

It’s a kids rec room. They would never want this type of rug. Ottoman yes but rug nope. Finding a balance of what they want and I want.

@mcarroll16 all three kids helped too! Labour of love by all of us. One gaming now says it’s the best ever. It’s bluer in person

Did you order the blue rug in your picture above? If so, Beverly's rust-colored ottoman might be great. Ties into the rust-colored diamond shapes on that rug.

I did! I’m waiting for it to come so I can see in person the colours. Also considering just covering the existing ottoman for now as it will be a needle in haystack to find a replacement that is right colour and height etc.

"Best ever" sounds like "high praise." :)

What color is the accent wall? nice.

    It’s called Poppyseed.

You didn't ask about lamps, but want to post idea: 3,000K warm white LED lights rotate 360° / use three brightness levels using the dimming foot switch / to shine on corners of living room, bedroom, or office. Each light fixture has a light diffuser that keeps the light soft and easy on the eyes.

We will need lamps for sure. At this point I need to be patient and get the rug in and the new tv stand so I can see the space better. Sept 8th!

Should you end up covering your ottoman, I came across these straps on Amazon. It would be easier than sewing on elastic straps as I suggested earlier.

At this point I’m leaning toward a blue ottoman but not sure in shade. Depending on colours on rug might go to rust colour or a mustard but not sure. Have found covers on Amazon that are worth a try as inexpensive and easy returns.

West: I somehow thought you are looking for chairs, so I posted.

We sort of are. I want chairs, husband doesn’t. So for now we are keeping second sofa and seeing what happens

Rug is in and so is new tv stand. Air hockey table in car.

    What colour for ottoman?

Also thinking of doing framed movie posters of our favourites on wall?

The rug looks wonderful. I think a pale gray that matches the rug would look nice on the ottoman. Framed movie posters would give the room some zing. Nice work!

The rug is very blue. No grey in it at all

Love the rug! I would do the ottoman in one of the two minor rug colors. The paprika or the taupe? ivory?

Pictures are funny! There is no taupe or paprika. It’s more like a peach or apricot colour. Ivory would look great but seems like a bad idea with three kids.

Ah, agree, ivory doesn't play well with kids. In that case I am stumped, and looking forward to seeing the pro suggestions.

Here’s the update on both sides of the room. I’m really pleased at where we are. I want to get a tray or something for the ottoman but will do so in time. Will likely do the movie posters later too but for now a fun spot for all of us.

Nice! Love having the big chair on the other side, to open up the window area. And the navy ottoman works great, which I wouldn't have expected.

Thanks. It’s actually a love seat. I suspect we will replace it eventually but for now it’s all good.

    It’s a wonderful family room!

It's blue and works well with accent wall, rug, etc... couldn't tell a loveseat!
