Which color velvet Chesterfield Sofa do you like for my formal living room? Wall color will stay the same but will decorate around the sofa.

I'd go with the navy. I prefer the straight-sided look over the curved arm look, and I think the navy would go with more; however, it's not as much a "stand out" color as the turquoise. I don't love the silver studs on the arms ... prefer the style of the red sofa. Red is my favorite color, but -- in decorating -- I prefer it to be an accent or a rug rather than a sofa.

Of course, this is 100% opinion.

No reason or logic to any of it.

looks like your house style (Trim detail) doesn't call for such a decorative sofa.

you've taken a big leap from the over stuffed casual style you have in the photo.

Any chance you will beef up the Trim moulding and include other pieces to compliment the style?

that said, the aqua is unique.

I love Chesterfields. i have a deep gray leather one in my formal living which is used as a music room. Blue and turquoise are my favorite colors! in this case I would pick the navy blue. It would go better with your beige walls and it would be easier to decorate around than turquoise. I like the plum color but not with beige walls.

Plum would be lovely with the wall colour you have. However, you will need some more formal furnishings to make any of those sofas look at home.

I am not seeing a formal space. The view of the stone fireplace and t v puts the room in perspective. I can imagine this sofa:

Can you take a pic from the other side? I’ll have to see that, but from this pic alone I don’t see a chesterfield in this space.

I love the turquoise. Before you order, however, see if you can mock one up, size-wise, in used moving boxes or something. These things often look much bigger when you get them home!

Thank you all! Decided to go with the navy blue with these pillows.

I would go with the teal turquoise one because I think it mitigates the otherwise potentially *stuffy* feel of the classic Chesterfield.

I recently remodeled and I reupholstered a vintage chair I owned with a modern fabric instead of the *expected* blue or moss green mohair that it would have had originally.

I recently remodeled and I have quite a bit of teal blue in terms of my choices - different shades of blue and they all work nicely together - at least in my opinion. It is NOT a monochromatic beige scheme.

Even the interior of my cabinets are teal - but that is more of a hidden surprise as the interiors of the glass front cabinets are the standard wood matching the doors. I was told that white or wood was standard for cabinet interiors and I asked whether I coud pick a color and my designer said of course and liked the idea. My interiors are a combination of painted and formica clad - the formic is for shelves and interior of the sink cabinet where I wanted a surface that was more durable in terms of cleaning.

Have you had a chance to sit in a Chesterfield??? We have owned a navy blue leather one for over 25 years. It is NOT the seat of choice in our family room. I LOVE the way it looks, but sit in a more comfortable chair across from it (so that I can admire it from afar!). If you think you will get the comfort of your current sofa/chair, you will be disappointed. And…one more thing. Be prepared to vacuum the button area. They collect dust and crumbs, etc. Just saying! If you are used to no maintenance, this isn’t for you or your family. One more thing…velvet? It will show a butt wear pattern. So, the occasional light brushing of the nap will be required. I only speak from my experience with a leather Chesterfield and velvet chairs.

While the teal one is cool, that will be a date color in a few years. PLUS the rounded edges will not compliment the layout of the space. Maroon is the way to go imho. Unless youre staging the place for loud magazine feature and will get rid of it all the next day.

Thank you everyone. One more question - I bought a sofa, loveseat and 2 chairs. But now I am thinking of changing it to sofa, 2 loveseats and no chairs. I will save $1000 and some space with this config but not sure what will look nice in a formal living room. The loveseat width is 66 and chair width is 49. Any opinions would be appreciated.

Are all of the items in the style of the Chesterfield? The sofa should be, I think, a “one off” item. Unique. The centerpiece of the room. Just one. Nothing else matching it. How big is your room? Can you post a measured layout of it? We can save you more than $1000 if you will consider purchasing, perhaps, just two coordinating chairs to go with your sofa. Chairs that don’t “match” it, but will “go” with it.

No one likes to sit on a loveseat. They either want a chair so they can sit alone. Or they want the sofa so they can put space between themselves and the other person.
